When it comes to small spaces every inch counts! The key to making them work is to think of traffic flow, and how you’re going to arrange furniture for ease of access and comfort. This gives credence to the form over function motto! For this project we knew we were expanding the indoor outdoor flow by removing a wall of the house, creating a pocket door, so the interior living room was going to merge perfectly with the new exterior living room. The first element of the design we worked out was a built-in Banco seating around a central fire pit, with cushions and exterior fabrics, that even has a one piece cover that can snap in place. This will protect the fabrics in place while the couple travels, without having to drag them through the house to the garage for storage. The second critical factor of the design was implementing an outdoor kitchen just off camera, built-in to a patio Column, so that it becomes a serving bar and the appliances are behind the bar not out in the public space. Across the water, the vanishing edge spa was the visual draw, reflecting a fruitless olive tree, all enjoyed from the fire pit seating area. The back edge of the pool features a knife edge tile to granite interface without a coping, to minimize the line between water and landscape. Last but not least, the sweeping arc curvature of the pools leading edge was done so as to ease traffic flow from the entertaining and fire seating area to the spa, and to soften the otherwise rectangular lines of the yard.

Parrett was proud to provide windows and doors for this Regency-style home, working closely with the architect. Peter Block Architects aims to create unique homes with a mantra of "where artistry pervades industry, and humanity trumps formality." Parrett perfectly exemplifies these design and construction considerations with our meticulous craftsmanship. Parrett's window and door units for this home were factory-painted and constructed of sapele mahogany. The front entry door system featured decorative glass with metal caming bars. A unique "profiled" door panel design was employed, as well as a decorative "centered accent" and a bronze interlocking sill. The other window and door units featured an insulated, laminated glass makeup, offering the benefits of fade protection, sound deadening, and enhanced breakage/security performance. Grilles were simulated divided lite with internal spacer bars. Weight and chain double-hung windows were utilized to allow nearly effortless operation of the heavier sashes due to the laminated glass makeup. Spiral balance hung windows were also used in areas where large daylight openings were a primary factor. The largest stationary window was over 90” x 120”. Pushout casements were equipped with multipoint locking handlesets, as well as historic, exposed pushbars. All window and door units featured unlacquered brass hardware, which will patina with age and use, resulting in a one-of-a-kind appearance. Parrett was proud to contribute to the unique design characteristics of this home.

Emily and Steve have remodeled several pieces of their home and because they love Kaufman’s process so much, they keep coming back. In past years, we’ve remodeled most of their main floor including an updated living space and staircase, and a completely remodeled powder room and kitchen with a nice big island that’s perfect for entertaining. Their most recent project was this year when we remodeled their deck. The major pain points Steve and Emily dealt with before the remodel was lack of functionality due to poor design and because the previous owners had built the deck themselves, there were quite a few safety concerns. Throughout the design process, we decided to remove the existing deck completely and start fresh with a screened in porch, Emily’s Porch, and a deck off the porch with stairs going down to the beautiful backyard – one of the factors that motivated them to make this house their home to begin with.

This kitchen is so striking and strong with this white cabinetry and black countertops. This is a classic slab door with black hardware to give it a pop. The quartz Vicostone countertops are classic and stunning. Don't stop at the countertop because it goes all the way up the backsplash for a real wow factor. The architect and designer Guy Derwent was approached by his client with a clear and compelling brief: to completely transform a grand Victorian terrace house they were planning to renovate. The client envisioned something far beyond a standard renovation – this was to be a bold and dramatic reimagining of a family home that could grow with them over time. With the property having remained largely untouched for more than fifty years, the architects saw an opportunity to unlock its potential and deliver a contemporary design that would contrast beautifully with its Victorian heritage. The existing layout consisted of a series of small, disconnected rooms to the rear of the house. To respond to the client’s need for openness and flexibility, the architect proposed a radical restructuring of the ground floor: The rear rooms were completely removed Suspended timber floors were lowered by up to two metres to align with the garden Two bold extensions were added The first extension filled in the side return with a London stock brick facade and a glazed roof, while the second – a striking black steel and glass pavilion was glazed on three sides and placed along the garden elevation. This new pavilion redefined the building’s relationship with the garden. Its steel-framed glazing created a seamless dialogue between interior and exterior, offering a sense of immersion in the surrounding landscape. At the heart of the plan sits a dramatic, five-metre-tall dining space that acts as a transition from the original entrance hall into the new addition. A large, circular cast-glass window, framed in steel, provides a visual and spatial link between old and new, allowing light and movement to travel through the depth of the home. Throughout the project, a series of black metal elements were introduced as sculptural interventions – each marking moments of transformation within the house. These included the bespoke steel framed circular window, a custom metal staircase, a cylindrical support column, and the striking steel and glass garden pavilion. Together, they formed a coherent architectural language that underscored the project’s bold intent. Our steel windows and doors played a vital role in delivering the project’s vision. The architects chose steel for its refined sight lines and distinctive material character, which helped bridge the gap between the historical context of the building and the bold new additions. The black steel frames provided a crisp contrast to the pale London stock brick and added definition to the glazed pavilion, reinforcing the sense of architectural precision. In particular, the fine steel profiles of the garden room allowed the extension to feel both lightweight and immersive, blurring the boundary between the house and its garden. The architect drew inspiration from the Bauhaus Movement, particularly the work of Walter Gropius, whose approach to functional beauty and industrial materials informed the design of the garden pavilion. Here, our glazing system was used not just for transparency, but as an expressive architectural element. The carefully proportioned panels help to conceal the roof thickness and reinforce the pavilion’s industrial yet abstract character – a deliberate nod to product design and modernist detailing. Sustainability was an important factor in the selection of materials. Our steel systems, made from 99% recycled content and 100% recyclable, aligned with the project’s broader environmental goals. The architects noted that this commitment to material longevity and circularity was central to their decision to use steel. The durability and recyclability of the windows and doors ensured the project met both aesthetic and ethical criteria. This London terrace house now stands as a celebration of contrast – between heritage and innovation, solidity and transparency, tradition and transformation. Our steel windows and doors were not simply components; they were essential tools in crafting a home that is as bold and expressive as it is functional. The result is a home designed for modern family life, where light, space, and materiality come together in perfect harmony.

We worked alongside ACG Architects and accessible kitchen design specialist, Adam Thomas to create this stunning wheelchair-accessible kitchen so our client could prepare, cook and serve meals for her family independently. We designed this kitchen to have three different heights to enable our client and family to prepare and cook food easily. For example, the accessible worktop with a custom-made sink was made to be 870mm - the perfect height for a wheelchair user. Other key features in this design include wheelchair level ovens with tray slides that sit directly under two Neff Slide & Glide ovens, a Neff Steamer and a Microwave, so hot oven trays can be moved easily across each tray slide. A pull-out shelf allows for food/trays to be moved easily to the worktop level that was designed to be lower than standard for wheel-chair use. In front of the hob, there is also a protective lip at the edge of the worktop to stop a pan from boiling over onto the floor, or onto the client's lap. A stone sink was also custom made by Cosentino, so it wasn’t too deep for our client to reach into. The architects included wood slatting across the entire ground floor that creating a stunning feature in the kitchen space. Each slat was designed to run with precision over the door units - there were also toasters and pull-out drawers hidden behind this area which were designed to be isolated from the power when the doors were closed. Mixing different materials and textures in a kitchen space created interest and contrast. The striking mix of the stained wood slatting, Graphite Grey cabinetry and durable Dekton Keon worktops in this collaborative kitchen design creates a real wow factor. This kitchen design works for each family member with varying needs and heights so that it is a space that allows for the whole family to enjoy and create memories together. This stunning kitchen / breakfast area is full of color and stunning details. As you walk into the kitchen, you will find that the hardwood herringbone floor is extraordinary. Its the first thing you notice and it really is striking. Every angle of the kitchen has a wow factor - look to the right and you'll see gorgeous teal ceramic tile backsplash, the ultra versatile workhorse sink, and yes, a pink microwave - great pops of color perfectly balanced between the white shaker cabinets and white countertop. This Custom Pool Design features a 12” Raised Spa with (6) Extra Therapy Jets for maximum de-stressing and a Wrap Around Spillway flowing into the Pool, providing that luxurious sound of cascading water. The generously sized Tanning Shelf is a convenient way to transition into the Pool or a place to lounge in while enjoying the sun. At the back of the Pool, the Raised Wall with Sheer Descent adds a touch of elegance, as well as a “WOW” factor. We love how light and open white can make a kitchen feel, but here, I love the contrast of the black countertops, accented perfectly with the marble island top. Warm wood floors add texture, new LED lighting and glass pendants make a welcoming, open-concept kitchen nice and bright. Moving walls allowed up to put in a nice long island for a family of four to eat at, cook, and easily entertain. This kitchen has a mega ‘cool’ factor - the space under the stairs, was a pantry before we remodeled, but now it’s a larger pantry, and it’s built to look just like the rest of the kitchen cabinetry
