The backyard had persistent drainage issues, so Betz resolved the problem by adjusting the levels and slopes on all new surfaces. Another challenge was the overgrown hedge and shrubs which used up valuable space. They were removed from across the back and a portion of one side, then replaced with new fencing.

The artfully designed Boise Passive House is tucked in a mature neighborhood, surrounded by 1930’s bungalows. The architect made sure to insert the modern 2,000 sqft. home with intention and a nod to the charm of the adjacent homes. Its classic profile gleams from days of old while bringing simplicity and design clarity to the façade.
The 3 bed/2.5 bath home is situated on 3 levels, taking full advantage of the otherwise limited lot. Guests are welcomed into the home through a full-lite entry door, providing natural daylighting to the entry and front of the home. The modest living space persists in expanding its borders through large windows and sliding doors throughout the family home. Intelligent planning, thermally-broken aluminum windows, well-sized overhangs, and Selt external window shades work in tandem to keep the home’s interior temps and systems manageable and within the scope of the stringent PHIUS standards.

Before renovation, this 25–30-year-old sunroom in Verona, NJ, had aging wood framing and persistent leaks from the glass roof. Years of water intrusion had damaged portions of the framing, and one door no longer operated properly. Vision Art Aluminium removed the deteriorated enclosure to prepare for a modern four-season aluminum and glass sunroom, preserving the original footprint.

The homeowner wanted to have her backyard professionally designed addressing a persisting drainage issue that compromised the pool maintenance.
The design addressed the drainage issue by installing an underground system with PVC piping and catch basins to deviate water to the street.
The homeowner's main desire was to create a walking area behind the pool with space for quiet reading and a new landscape to provide privacy and enjoyment. Sphere boxwoods are the protagonists of the scene over limestone gravel along with agapanthuses; both adapted to partial shade from the many pine trees located along with the property. The main accomplishment was to provide a lush landscape in a previously problematic area with no drainage and shade. The flow of the walking area continues with liriope and mondo grass leading to a peaceful reading area surrounded by beautiful boulders and muhly grass.

When Peek Pools and Spas was excavating the pool area, they hit a hard massive stone,” says Dave. “They had to keep digging and digging to dislodge it. To them, the massive rock was big a problem to be overcome. But when we spied it, we immediately said, ‘That’s our grotto rock!’
“Our friends at Pool Kings thought we were crazy, because it was so large. It wasn’t easy, but our team was persistent, even when the excavating machine’s chain snapped because the rock was so heavy.” www.deckandpatio.com
