Crafted Custom Homes + RenovationsWaynesboro master bath renovation in Houston, Texas. This is a small 5'x12' bathroom that we were able to squeeze a lot of nice features into. When dealing with a very small vanity top, using a wall mounted faucet frees up your counter space. The use of large 24x24 tiles in the small shower cuts down on the busyness of grout lines and gives a larger scale to the small space. The wall behind the commode is shared with another bath and is actually 8" deep, so we boxed out that space and have a very deep storage cabinet that looks shallow from the outside. A large sheet glass mirror mounted with standoffs also helps the space to feel larger.

Visbeen ArchitectsForget just one room with a view—Lochley has almost an entire house dedicated to capturing nature’s best views and vistas. Make the most of a waterside or lakefront lot in this economical yet elegant floor plan, which was tailored to fit a narrow lot and has more than 1,600 square feet of main floor living space as well as almost as much on its upper and lower levels. A dovecote over the garage, multiple peaks and interesting roof lines greet guests at the street side, where a pergola over the front door provides a warm welcome and fitting intro to the interesting design. Other exterior features include trusses and transoms over multiple windows, siding, shutters and stone accents throughout the home’s three stories. The water side includes a lower-level walkout, a lower patio, an upper enclosed porch and walls of windows, all designed to take full advantage of the sun-filled site. The floor plan is all about relaxation – the kitchen includes an oversized island designed for gathering family and friends, a u-shaped butler’s pantry with a convenient second sink, while the nearby great room has built-ins and a central natural fireplace. Distinctive details include decorative wood beams in the living and kitchen areas, a dining area with sloped ceiling and decorative trusses and built-in window seat, and another window seat with built-in storage in the den, perfect for relaxing or using as a home office. A first-floor laundry and space for future elevator make it as convenient as attractive. Upstairs, an additional 1,200 square feet of living space include a master bedroom suite with a sloped 13-foot ceiling with decorative trusses and a corner natural fireplace, a master bath with two sinks and a large walk-in closet with built-in bench near the window. Also included is are two additional bedrooms and access to a third-floor loft, which could functions as a third bedroom if needed. Two more bedrooms with walk-in closets and a bath are found in the 1,300-square foot lower level, which also includes a secondary kitchen with bar, a fitness room overlooking the lake, a recreation/family room with built-in TV and a wine bar perfect for toasting the beautiful view beyond.

Klopf ArchitectureSet in a quiet neighborhood and framed by mature trees, this residence presented a unique opportunity: to thoughtfully evolve a custom mid-century modern home into a space that supports the everyday rhythms of a growing family. With a deep respect for the home’s original architecture, Klopf Architecture reimagined the house to better meet the needs of its owners—introducing functional improvements while preserving the spirit and character of its mid-century roots.
The clients approached Klopf Architecture with a clear vision: refresh their home while seamlessly integrating new programmatic elements. Key goals included clarifying and enhancing the entry sequence; connecting the detached garage to the main house with a practical yet architecturally intentional intervention; adding functional spaces such as a mudroom and laundry room; expanding and remodeling the primary suite’s bathroom and closet; and creating a more engaging outdoor space that capitalized on the site’s impressive views, featuring a fire pit and outdoor kitchen.
As a couple with distinct yet complementary perspectives—one focused on modern functionality and technology, and the other dedicated to preserving the home’s architectural integrity—their collaboration with Klopf Architecture resulted in a solution that harmonized both ideals. Their shared commitment to improving the livability of their home led to a design dialogue rooted in balance. This dynamic partnership shaped the direction of the renovation, ensuring that every decision honored the spirit of the original home while aligning with the practical needs of their growing family.
Designing within the constraints of the sloped site posed one of the project’s central challenges. The detached garage sat at a higher elevation than the main house, requiring a solution that ensured architectural and geometric compatibility between the two structures. Rather than create a purely utilitarian link, Klopf Architecture introduced an intentional connection that contributes to the overall architectural language. A notable pinch point in the plan—where differing geometries converged—was treated as a hinge point, turning a potentially awkward juncture into an architectural feature. This area now functions as both a transition and a moment of design interest that unifies the overall plan.
The design also addressed the underutilized outdoor area, which was located in a shadowed portion of the site with geometrical limitations. A new connection to the rear deck was created in this same area, making the outdoor space more useful and inviting. Klopf Architecture introduced carefully positioned openings and spatial improvements that forged a strong visual and functional connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor area now reads as a deliberate extension of the home, embracing natural light and emphasizing the dramatic views.
Working through multiple design iterations, Klopf Architecture crafted a solution that preserved the architectural language of the original home while supporting the functional needs of modern life. The garage-to-house connection became more than a passage—it evolved into an architectural moment of transition. A new mudroom and laundry space enhanced convenience without compromising the clean lines of the design. The primary suite was expanded to create a private, serene retreat. The reimagined backyard, complete with fire pit and kitchen, now plays a vital role in the family’s daily routine and social life.
Outcomes and Lasting Impact
The result is a home that balances heritage with contemporary design, technical precision with design sensibility. The redesign not only met the clients’ initial goals but also exceeded expectations in its ability to seamlessly blend past and present, function and beauty, making the outdoor kitchen a favorite gathering place.

place architecture:designPlace architecture:design enlarged the existing home with an inviting over-sized screened-in porch, an adjacent outdoor terrace, and a small covered porch over the door to the mudroom.
These three additions accommodated the needs of the clients’ large family and their friends, and allowed for maximum usage three-quarters of the year. A design aesthetic with traditional trim was incorporated, while keeping the sight lines minimal to achieve maximum views of the outdoors.

This terrace operates as an outdoor room in the fullest architectural sense — a compressed foreground plane opening onto one of the most consequential borrowed landscapes in the world. The composition is organized along a strong diagonal: an L-shaped seating arrangement anchors the lower left and right quadrants, its low-slung horizontality deliberately calibrated to sit beneath the sightline of the parapet rail so that the vista remains uninterrupted from a seated position. The spatial logic is one of layered thresholds. First, the intimate zone of the furniture group; second, the clipped boxwood hedge set within a matte-dark planter, functioning as a green datum line and soft balustrade; third, the slender vertical picket railing, whose rhythmic cadence reads as a fine-grained screen rather than a barrier; and finally the middle-ground canopy of Central Park and the distant supergraphic of the Billionaires' Row skyline. To the left, a mature juniper mass performs as a living pilaster, terminating the composition and screening the adjacent stone masonry wall — a rough-hewn ashlar remnant of the prewar building envelope that grounds the scheme in its architectural provenance. The stepped stone paving and the raked geometry of the railing as it descends to the right introduce a subtle asymmetry, preventing the picturesque from becoming static.

WW Design StudioA former kitchen with a staggered sight line, tiled countertop, and brass trim gains a fresh perspective with small updates. The cabinetry was in excellent shape, so the kitchen was largely re-purposed with all the original cabinetry intact and the same footprint used. The wish list included extra storage and with a vaulted ceiling, the obvious choice was to gain additional storage in height. As the original cabinets were no longer being manufactured, glass front uppers were chosen and painted to match. With the addition of new side panels and crown moulding, the new uppers cabinets blend seamlessly in place. The pantry walls were also painted to match the cabinetry to give it the appearance of a built-in. New countertops in black Caesarstone, marble backsplash, Blanco sink, brushed nickel knobs, and kitchen faucet gives this kitchen a fresh updated look!
