Pineapple House produced a modern but charming interior wall pattern using horizontal planks with ¼” reveal in this home on the Intra Coastal Waterway. Designers incorporated energy efficient down lights and 1’” slotted linear air diffusers in new coffered and beamed wood ceilings. The designers use windows and doors that can remain open to circulate fresh air when the climate permits.

For visual consistency in this basement build-out, Pineapple House determined that most of the walls would be 10” wide, smoothly finished wood planks with nickel joints. With boys in mind, the furniture and materials they specified are nearly indestructible –porcelain tile floors, wood and stone walls, wood ceilings, granite countertops, wooden chairs, stools and benches, concrete-top dining table, metal display shelves and leather on sectional, dining chair bottoms and game stools.

We add color throughout the home. In the master, we design an over-scale custom bed with a multi-layered headboard and create a curvaceous nail head bench, plus fabricate an almost invisible steel console behind the sofa.

The opposite wall in the living room features a wet bar that includes two full-sized wine refrigerators, sink, storage cabinets, and shelving, as well as plenty of open floor space to entertain. The tall dark blue painted cabinetry helps to visually balance the room, as a large, bold design element opposite the fireplace wall. The inlaid brass detail on the cabinet doors adds a touch of glamour to this more formal space. The focal point of the wet bar is the illuminated book-matched marble backsplash with custom floating brass and glass shelves.

The vanity doors, kitchen backsplash and keeping room floor covering, master sheers are all derivatives of a quatrefoil.

In the family room, designers replace the vaulted ceiling with a 13 foot high coffered ceiling. They configure the TV over the mantel in a dark shaft so it can disappear visually. Since pets are kept in this area, they replace two French door sets with stack-back doors, which produces a 12’ opening. When open, this unites the family room with the screen porch, enabling indoor/outdoor living. It enlarges the pet’s territory and helps keep the room fresh.

Pineapple House designers replaced the floor tile in this Florida home with wide, lightly distressed oak planks. A stained wood inlay in the light hardwoods in the entry defines the foyer. On the right of the photo, a clear acrylic bench sits in front of an acrylic wall which prevents passage while allowing views.

A multiple configuration of pendant chandeliers compliments the layers of light in this master bedroom. The custom bed has a footboard and headboard frame with an antique mirror finish. The television is framed by a mother-of-pearl wall covering and the fireplace has a white onyx surround. Panels with pillow edges add visual interest to the wall to the left of the fireplace, where a red leather-top writing desk and dog bed rest.

Entering the single-story home, a custom double front door leads into a foyer with a 14’ tall, vaulted ceiling design imagined with stained planks and slats. The foyer floor design contrasts white dolomite slabs with the warm-toned wood floors that run throughout the rest of the home. Both the dolomite and engineered wood were selected for their durability, water resistance, and most importantly, ability to withstand the south Florida humidity. With many elements of the home leaning modern, like the white walls and high ceilings, mixing in warm wood tones ensures that the space still feels inviting and comfortable.

Pineapple House designers replaced the client's old-school theater with a modernized configuration that includes polished walls, speakers hidden behind mesh grates, multi-levels with steps, oversized loungers and over-scale seating and a bar. Motorized drapery is integrated in the crown molding. When activated, the blue panels open and expose the 150” screen while simultaneously closing over the entrances into the room.

Living rooms, like any room, are more likely to be used if they host activities. Placing a television in an environment helps guarantee that the space will be enjoyed. In more formal locations, televisions are generally (cleverly) hidden so they don't distract from the room's elegance. Other great "anchors" in formal living spaces include a piano and fireplace, which set the stage for comfortable seating during concerts and conversations.

In the wine cellar, Pineapple House designers employ a limestone rock wall. Select stones are pulled forward, creating “shelves” for battery-run candles. Glass doors help transmit light into the space -- the one most far away from the rooms' solo wall of windows.
