Black siding transformed this home in Maple Grove. This project left a lasting impression, transforming a home with worn and outdated vinyl siding which had been damaged by hail and Minnesota’s harsh climate, in a lakeside retreat. The homeowners sought a fresh look that would elevate both the aesthetic and functionality of their property, making the most of the beautiful lakeside views.
The first major update involved replacing the tired vinyl siding with James Hardie board and batten siding in the striking Shou Sugi Ban color. This deep, rich color brings an elegant, modern look to the home, offering both timeless appeal and exceptional durability. The board and batten style adds texture and sophistication, making the home stand out in the neighborhood.
To complement the dark siding, light-colored cultured stone was added to the front and lakeside, creating a beautiful contrast and enhancing the home’s curb appeal. The cultured stone not only adds a natural, rustic feel but also integrates seamlessly with the overall design, providing a warm, inviting entrance and lakeside view.
Another key element of the remodel was the transformation of the home’s windows. A bank of smaller windows was removed, replaced by a massive Marvin window that now serves as the focal point of the living room, offering unobstructed views of the serene lake. The project also included the removal of several diamond-shaped windows and a six-foot patio door, which were replaced with a sleek 16-foot patio door. This new installation opened up the space, flooding the home with natural light and creating a seamless connection between the interior and the outdoor beauty of the lake.
With these updates, the home in Maple Grove is now a stunning showcase of modern design and functionality, blending sophisticated materials with breathtaking views.

Our clients were looking to build an income property for use as a short term rental in their backyard. In order to keep maximize the available space on a limited footprint, we designed the ADU around a spiral staircase leading up to the loft bedroom. The vaulted ceiling gives the small space a much larger appearance.
To provide privacy for both the renters and the homeowners, the ADU was set apart from the house with its own private entrance.
The design of the ADU was done with local Pacific Northwest aesthetics in mind, including green exterior paint and a mixture of woodgrain and metal fixtures for the interior.
Durability was a major concern for the homeowners. In order to minimize potential damages from renters, we selected quartz countertops and waterproof flooring. We also used a high-quality interior paint that will stand the test of time and clean easily.
The end result of this project was exactly what the client was hoping for, and the rental consistently receives 5-star reviews on Airbnb.

Drainage and erosion management systems play an important role in preserving and safeguarding damage to your home and property. The drainage system's goal is to collect and direct the unwanted amount of water to a suitable location. This will help prevent the landscaping and lawn from being muddy and soggy and remove excessive streams of water during heavy rains that cause erosion of the soil.

A thermal break is a layer of material with low thermal conductivity. For the correct operation of the door, it must be located between the outer and inner sides of the leaf and the frame, thereby excluding the contact of the metal parts with each other.
This technology prevents the door from freezing, preserving its properties and impeccable appearance for many years.
The two-tone painting ofthe door leaf and the frame makes it possible to select colours separately for interior and exterior decoration, which gives the door a complete look and makes it possible to create a harmonious image in the interior and exterior.
All models of this collection are made with a frame made of aluminum. The external framework and internal power framework of the frame do not touch in any way, because they are interconnected by a polyamide insert (thermal break) 18 mm thick, which guarantees maximum thermal insulation performance.
The door leaf ofthis series is made of two sheets of metal 1 mm thick. A reliable two-layer design with a thermal insulation layer and expanded polystyrene filling guarantees reliability. durability, and the best indicators of heat and noise insulation of the door.

Alicia Slayton painted this door for a client wanting to sell their property and the door was severely damaged. As you can see the transformation was incredible.

This zealous gardener was tired of her pool taking up so much space in her landscape. She asked me for ideas. The answer was simple. Since her garden brings her so much joy, I proposed adding more garden rooms to experience. We removed the large expansive pool and replaced it with a small reflecting pond that doubles as the pool. This allowed us to create 4 new garden spaces. We replaced all concrete pavers with natural PA flagstone. The traditional square lawn provides elements of simplicity, elegance and classical style while creating a new play space for the grand kids. The pergola creates depth and a great focal point from the loggia. We illuminated all the walkways and garden rooms with Escort Lighting. One of the most fun transformations was converting the spa to a fish pond. The pond provides just enough sound to drain out all neighborhood activities. In the front, we created a new permeable brick paving parking area. The parking area was designed to keep visitors from venturing to the back parking. We chose the permeable brick pavers to collect runoff that is becoming more of a problem in the neighborhood. Our final piece to this property was to come up with a unique solution creating additional privacy while minimizing root damage to the existing plant material. Our client was looking for a permanent solution that required little to no maintenance. Masonry walls were out due to the necessary footers. We looked at fence options. Wood and plastics were out, so we created post out of steel “I” beams and setting concrete lintels in between the lintels. It was perfect. This has to be one of my favorite projects to design and implement of my 25 year experience.

Project Description (for Houzz):
We recently completed a thoughtful hardscaping project at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hillsborough, North Carolina, featuring a custom low retaining wall and a matching brick ash garden.
The church faced ongoing sediment runoff from the upper parking lot that was washing onto the brick walkway and patio below. To resolve this, we designed and built a low retaining wall that effectively regrades the slope, prevents erosion, and protects the lower hardscape areas from future water damage and debris. The wall provides both practical drainage solutions and a clean, structural enhancement to the grounds.
Complementing the wall, we created a custom brick ash garden that seamlessly integrates with the church’s existing columbarium. Using carefully selected brick to match the surrounding architecture, the new garden offers a respectful, peaceful space for memorialization while maintaining visual and stylistic harmony across the property.
This project highlights our expertise in combining functionality with respectful design—delivering durable solutions that solve site challenges while honoring the character and purpose of sacred spaces. From erosion control and grade correction to beautiful, cohesive memorial areas, every element was crafted for longevity and aesthetic unity.
Project Highlights:
Custom low retaining wall for erosion control and grade adjustment
Matching brick ash garden integrated with existing columbarium
Improved drainage and protection for lower-level walkways and patios
Thoughtful hardscaping that enhances both beauty and functionality
A meaningful collaboration that improves the church grounds for years to come.

Life is brought back to the historic C&O Canal.
In 2010, a blizzard devastated the 60-year-old Mulberry trees lining the historic Tow Path of the C&O Canal in Georgetown. D. A. Dunlevy was brought in to repair the damage and restore the beauty of this popular site. The challenge of finding a native species of tree that was also mature enough to have considerable height was met through a collaboration with the property owner and the National Park Service. Locally-sourced river birch, standing 30-40 feet tall, were brought in and planted, providing a fast return to the stately stretch of trail. A custom water feature and specialty plantings were also installed in the courtyard to add a peaceful place for taking in the views.
