A riverfront property is a desirable piece of property duet to its proximity to a waterway and parklike setting. The value in this renovation to the customer was creating a home that allowed for maximum appreciation of the outside environment and integrating the outside with the inside, and this design achieved this goal completely. To eliminate the fishbowl effect and sight-lines from the street the kitchen was strategically designed with a higher counter top space, wall areas were added and sinks and appliances were intentional placement. Open shelving in the kitchen and wine display area in the dining room was incorporated to display customer's pottery. Seating on two sides of the island maximize river views and conversation potential. Overall kitchen/dining/great room layout designed for parties, etc. - lots of gathering spots for people to hang out without cluttering the work triangle. Eliminating walls in the ensuite provided a larger footprint for the area allowing for the freestanding tub and larger walk-in closet. Hardwoods, wood cabinets and the light grey colour pallet were carried through the entire home to integrate the space.

I have been working as a kitchen and bath designer in the Pacific Northwest for 13 years. I love engaging with new clients, ascertaining their needs through various interviews and meetings and then collaborating as we build their finished concept together. The variety of design styles, room layouts and function changes so much between one person and the next that no two finished products are remotely the same. This fluidity allows for endless possibilities for exploration in my field. It keeps the job interesting and has always given me a particular sense of reward and accomplishment as we near completion. The greatest personal recompense in this chosen profession is being able to walk with a client through this process and come out the other side with that client feeling elated with the end result.

Photos and design by TMS Architects, This family desired larger, more open spaces with a kitchen prominent as the "heart" of the home. They requested casual seating at a bar located adjacent to the kitchen area and a large kitchen island for seating. Because of its proximity to the ocean, a nautical motif runs throughout the home; the family room's teak ceiling is reminiscent of the hull of a ship, a gold leaf weathervane in the shape of a ship graces the top of the stone turret and a marble compass rose in inlayed in the floor of the art studio. Blues of the sea and sky are used in the furnishings and paint colors.

Client wanted a multi-purpose room where they could entertain or relax and have proximity to kids playing outdoors and also enjoy the view of their back yard. By making use of a 6 ft. Marvin Bifold door, we were able to achieve that. The door can be completely open when the weather permits and closed when needed. For ideal conditions any time we installed a Mitsubi mini split system. Tile floor, tongue and groove wood ceiling, and Travertine tile on the fireplace make for a homey Rustic, but modern design.

The home was designed in a similar fashion to a custom home where we design to accommodate the family that might live here. As with many properties that are 1/3 of an acre, homes are in fairly close proximity and therefore this house was designed to focus the majority of the views into a private courtyard with a pool as its accent. Beautiful Rear-porch/ deck addition designed by Joe Harris at Measure Architects. This porch was constructed in close proximity to a heritage tree which required extensive planning, permitting, and care during the construction process to keep the tree healthy. While installing the foundation, our team practiced hydro/air excavation and hand-dug once the roots were exposed to protect the tree. Great work team!

Coming from the Bay area, our clients spend a lot of time in Tahoe and therefore purchased a vacation home within close proximity to Heavenly Mountain. Their intention was to utilize the three-bedroom, three-bathroom, single-family home as a vacation rental but also as a part-time, second home for themselves. Being a vacation rental, budget was a top priority. We worked within our clients’ parameters to create a mountain modern space with the ability to sleep 10, while maintaining durability, functionality and beauty. We’re all thrilled with the result.
