This new light-filled space is a respite from the elements and a perfect transition to the interior. There’s a tile “carpet” in Tabarka’s Izmir handpainted terracotta tile from Tempest Tileroom. Given its long lead time, our sample tile was traced onto paper and photocopied repeatedly, each paper tile cut and set in place as a template so the Oak border could be installed first. Near the basement door, there’s a custom bench with shoe cubbies below and hooks for coats above. A built-in bench with plush cushions rests at the end of the way, a comfy spot to relax as you shake off the weather or worries of the day. Both were designed and crafted by Arciform.

Located within a circa 1900 Victorian home in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington DC, this elegantly renovated bathroom offers a soothing respite for guests. Features include a furniture style vanity, coordinating medicine cabinet from Rejuvenation, a custom corner shower with diamond patterned tiles, and a clawfoot tub situated under niches clad in waterjet marble and glass mosaics.

The shower floor is a work of art, adorned with oyster natural hexagon mosaic tiles, creating a textured contrast to the rest of the room. Along the wall, a generous niche comes alive with titles that dance in varying shades of blue, reminiscent of delicate watercolors. For added convenience, a shower niche offers a perfect space for toiletries, and a tiled footrest ensures comfort during your daily rituals. Completing the aesthetic of this lavish retreat, all plumbing fixtures shimmer in brushed nickel, exuding a timeless elegance that promises to withstand changing trends. Venturing between different imaginative worlds, Jimmy finds respite in a nomadic tent amongst his journeys. Like a homemade fort requires the assemblage of every sheet and towel in the house, active migration demands resourcefulness in the use of available materials. Leather, denim, canvas, and rope allow Jimmy to remain a rugged little boy as he discovers new territories, and is further encouraged to activate space via movable furniture. Roam on. Lively pops of orange and blue from the existing vintage wallpaper by Diego Giacometti for Clarence House and dispersed pillows and stuffed animals from Coral & Tusk set the adventurous mood for this little roamer’s room. A truly beautiful addition to the Normandy Beach community, this custom home sits overlooking the Barnegat Bay. A summer escape for an ever-growing family, Falcon Industries has had the privelege of building two custom homes for this amazing family. Taking into consideration new building codes and elevations put in place following Hurricane Sandy, this home artfully meets these standards while creating a comfortable and inviting respite from the everyday. Custom furniture, including bedding and dressers hand-built by the Falcon team, are just some of the magical elements of this residence.

A mid-century modern home that the clients wanted to convert to a transitional craftsman aesthetic to suit the neighborhood charm. The renovation included an exterior addition, exterior finishes & lighting, landscaping, new primary suite, media room, mudroom, guest bath, and adding a powder bath to increase the value of the home. Overall, the clients were inspired by cool relaxing tones and are seeking continuity and a place of respite in the interior design.

This poolside cabana is first and foremost a shining example of a well-thought-out and executed Archadeck outdoor living design. The freestanding 17’x19’ patio cover is supported by cedar and stone-wrapped columns for a thoroughly rustic aesthetic. The high gable roof with open rafters achieves ultimate light entry inside this shady respite, and boasts beautiful cedar-wrapped gable trim for a truly tailored look.

The site of the Emperor Hotel, Qianmen was once occupied by a public bath, and so the spirit of bathing and mystery will live on in the new hotel. The design is organized not by spaces and circulation, but by emotions and dreams; not by materials and details but by illusions and memories. The design is infused throughout with water: from the pool cantilevered above the rooftop, it flows out and rains down, cascading through the hotel in a series of interior channels; dripping down threads from which hang mysterious floating plants; drizzling in a spectacular 15m interior rainfall; and eventually plummeting down to an underground waterfall in the heart of a hidden spa. Guest rooms are designed to provide visitors with a peaceful respite from the energy of Beijing. Each room is uniquely designed with the goal of providing guests with a distinctive, unique and memorable experience.

This small master bath in a townhouse was completely renovated to improve the layout and produce a sleek, contemporary respite. The clean, spare lines and innovative materials result in a feeling of tranquility. An interior wavevue glass translucent window between the shower and bedroom and in the pocket door creates a sensual feeling of openness. It offers an architecturally interesting connection between the bath and master bedroom, while still allowing for privacy. The wave theme is repeated with the wave white porcelanosa tile wall alongside the tub. An elevated tub deck doubles as a drying platform outside of shower. The innovative Link floor tile features a vinyl top above a pvc base which prevents water absorption. The contemporary fixtures include a Hydro Logan freestanding tub, Brizo Odin fixtures, and Hans Grohe shower fixtures. The wall of Madeli cabinetry completes this sleek, contemporary design.

A young couple arrived in Lisbon amid the pandemic to start the next chapter of their life together. They were welcomed by a quieted city, with renewed appreciation for its own natural beauty, and happened upon a recently reconstructed apartment with a broad river view. All that remained was to select suitable furnishings to transform the spacious top-floor duplex into their own comfortable home. In the airy living area, a Poul Cadovius teak shelving system is the central display and entertainment center, drawing the eye toward the riverscape. The verticality is countered by sofa-chaise seating atop a Portugese-produced rug, plus a reclining armchair whose color takes cues from the plentiful plants. Playful, vintage lamps illuminate in accents, after the pastels of sunset fade beyond the bridge. Entertaining runs through the couple’s veins, one of which built a career in wine and hospitality, so within reach of the intimate dining table is a built-in bar with bountiful bottle storage. The mezzanine above serves the other partner’s dance and somatic practices with made-to-measure wall mirror and upholstered floor mats. Hidden away is the adjacent master suite, its billowy bed encircled by clean, concealed clothing storage for uncluttered repose. The downstairs guest bedroom is modest so its walls reflect the day’s changing light. A bespoke bed with contiguous floating nightstands, proportions inspired by Cadovius, offers peaceful respite. Bedside pendants were hand crafted by a local ceramicist, imparting an organic touch to otherwise sleek lines of wood and metalwork. Across the hall, work and rest coexist: an extra writing module from the shelving system and a classic Eames task chair make a workstation, while a custom-designed pull-out daybed accommodates naps and extra visitors.
