This landscape plan transforms a long, narrow backyard into a sleek, low-maintenance oasis, embracing the modern aesthetic while harmonizing with the local environment. Sun-loving native plants were chosen with a restricted palette of greens and whites, creating a sophisticated look. On the new patio, integrated gabion benches, filled with river stones, provide seating and add a rustic, industrial touch. A strategically placed border of tall ornamental grasses creates a natural screen from the driveway.

The house is carefully carved to reveal open spaces, which are flooded with natural light. The form of the house evolved from a thorough analysis of the site geometries, the availability of natural light and the client’s programmatic requirements. The design was further challenged by local zoning restrictions. The summary of this analysis revealed a central courtyard, which houses a Brazilian Ironwood tree. A symbol for the family, the tree will continue to grow alongside the family for generations.

This is the 'Before' picture. The owners desired a change from the manicured, water intensive lawn and meatballed trees and shrubs. Being in a walking neighborhood, they also wanted a way to access the front door from the sidewalk, without having to enter via the driveway.

This Guest Bathroom has a small footprint and the shower was claustrophobic in size. We could not enlarge the bathroom, so we made changes that made it feel more open. By cutting down the shower wall and installing a glass panel, the shower now has a more open feeling. Through the glass panel you are able to see the pretty artisan blue tiles that coordinate with the penny round floor tiles. The vanity was only 18” deep, which restricted our sink options. We chose a natural soapstone countertop with a Corian oval sink. Rich walnut wood cabinetry, polished nickel plumbing and light fixtures add sparkle to the space.

The homeowner requested a unique design that would provide backyard privacy from the street and an open floor plan in public spaces, but privacy in the master suite. Challenges of this home design included a narrow corner lot build site, building height restrictions and corner lot setback restrictions. The floorplan design was tailored to this corner lot and oriented to take full advantage of southern sun in the rear courtyard and pool terrace area. There are many notable spaces and visual design elements of this custom 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom brick cottage home. A mostly brick exterior with cut stone entry surround and entry terrace gardens helps create a cozy feel even before entering the home. Special spaces like a covered outdoor lanai, private southern terrace and second floor study nook create a pleasurable every-day living environment. For indoor entertainment, a lower level rec room, gallery, bar, lounge, and media room were also planned.

A 1930s Spanish Revival home with custom landscaping, hardscaping, exteriors color consultation. Natural materials like terracotta, breathable linens, and vintage rugs create a layered, lived-in family home. We designed landscaping that acted as an outdoor entertaining space for multiple families which was especially needed in light of the pandemic restrictions.

This couple, who bought a home in a new subdivision with small lots, asked Betz to design a low maintenance backyard with a pool. The tight access, change in elevation and restrictive property line setbacks limited the size of the custom vinyl pool to 11’ x 17’.

This bathroom was very small, and in a condo you are restricted on where plumbing can go. Storage needs to be maximized so the old fashioned banjo top makes a comeback in quartz. The right side of the mirror is actually hiding pipes. Genius right? Using the same floor in the shower and the bathroom gives the sense of a large space. And crown moulding with L'rail to the ceiling gives an elegant look. We loved doing this condo project. Mark and Terry were so pleased with the results.

I had a blast working on this personal project. My partner, Alex, is working from home and I needed a space where I could be creative but also put in the hard work. We had 100sf, a budget of "as-cheap-as-possible," and tons of rental restrictions--but good design always starts with a little problem solving, right? I infused the space with lots of neutral colors and tons of texture to keep it warm. I threw in my favorite vintage pieces, a big oversized paper lantern, and a bookshelf bar for some soul. & just like that, it's our favorite spot in town.

A wall-long set of La Cantina doors can be opened to let fresh air into the dining room. Great for entertaining, this massive door set doesn't restrict a gathering to just inside or outside.

Restricted by a compact but spectacular waterfront site, this home was designed to accommodate a large family and take full advantage of summer living on Cape Cod. The open, first floor living space connects to a series of decks and patios leading to the pool, spa, dock and fire pit beyond. The name of the home was inspired by the family’s love of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie series. The black pearl resides on the cap of the main stair newel post.

The concept of this two & half-floor house is Monochromic Boho style which is located in Puerto Cancun. The use of 30 -60% windows were obligatory based on the norm of the ambiental restriction. Materials used in facade are sustainable, adorned with Cantera, & Caracolillo local wood. Some of the furniture were designed from Fallen woods, and the doors are bleached with Tzalam local wood. The closed concrete kitchen gives the opportunity for the cook and the working staff to be comfortable in their working area. This house was completed in May 2019. It took a total of one year , for construction and re-designing both the interior and exterior.
