THEME A passion for sports that never
grows up, never grows old and never tires
is at the heart of this room. Designed as a
den/office for a radio sports talent who’s
life work revolves around stats, scores, free
agents and athletes, the room ensures that its owner is surrounded by the teams and games he loves, with room for storage, a desk, a computer station and some personal accents.
FOCUS Four baseball stadium seats
procured from the old Tiger Stadium in
Detroit, repainted with a faux wood grain
look and personalized with each member of
the family’s name give the room a true sports feel. Favorite team jerseys as well as team logos — painted tan to match the overall look of the room — highlight the space. Large wall towers divide the room into three distinct spaces. The central area houses two TV monitors and a hidden computer system, while the other two areas display oversized family photos in sepia tone prints and custom, matching frames. The towers, which provide storage, were purchased at Pottery Barn, and already in the room. To make them more functional, height was added to bring them to the ceiling, and the room’s crown molding is taken around each tower’s top to create a seamless flow.
STORAGE The creation of the towers
gives the room plenty of useful storage,
including display areas, multiple shelves,
and a place to hide computer accessories and office supplies.
GROWTH The room can easily change
over time as new sports memorabilia and
family photos are added or switched out.
SAFETY All wires for the monitors and
computer system are hidden within the wall
and inside the storage towers. Power running to digital frames dedicated to particular teams is hidden within the walls.

Get the Look! 20966 Vintage Beni M'Guild Moroccan Rug with Retro Modern Style 05'09 x 07'09. With vibrant splashes of colors and a bold geometric pattern, this hand-knotted wool vintage burgundy Beni M'Guild Moroccan rug astounds with its beauty. Like an endless horizon, the waves of abrash and ombre effect provides a beautiful backdrop for the all-over diamond pattern. This vintage Moroccan rug features a lozenge trellis composed of concentric diamonds, which symbolizes femininity and womanhood. It is framed with a cross motif border representing the male's presence of protection. In Moroccan rugs, male motifs often appear on the outer portions of the composition, framing and enclosing the female motifs. This presentation can be seen as symbolizing fertility, as well as protection and the sanctuary of the family. Though deceptively simple, this beautiful Beni Mguild Moroccan rug is clearly laced with meaning and cultural significance. Perfect for adding organic tactile sensations to a living room, bedroom, front room, home office, private library, sitting room, children's area, nursery, small space, mudroom, large entry, grand foyer, designer entryway, game room, playroom, study, studio, rumpus room, and theatre room or it would make a lovely accent next to a buffet in a dining room, behind the sofa table in the living room, or by a vestibule in a hotel lobby. Well-suited for fashion-forward homes, eclectic interiors, and a variety of styles: Bohemian, Postmodern, Abstract, Expressionism, Contemporary, Modern, Retro, Art Moderne, Boho Chic, Modern Mexican, Santa Fe Desert, Eclectic, Mid-Century Modern, Cubism, Surrealism, Memphis Design, Art Deco, Tribal, Nomadic, Ethnic, Primitive, African, Artisan, Industrial, Lodge, Cabin, Rustic, Northwestern, Urban, and Loft. Berber Tribes of Morocco. Abrash. Hand knotted wool. Made in Morocco. Measures: 05'09 x 07'09.

A view of the beautifully landscaped grounds and cutting garden are on full display in this all purpose room for the family. When the client's decided to turn the living room into a game room, this space needed to step up.
A small breakfast table was added to the corner next to the kitchen-- a great place to eat or do homework-- mixing the farmhouse and mid-century elements the client's love.
A large sectional provides a comfortable space for the whole family to watch TV or hang out. Crypton fabric was used on this custom Kravet sectional to provide a no-worry environment, as well as indoor/outdoor rugs. Especially necessary since the sliders lead out to the dining and pool areas.
The client's inherited collection of coastal trinkets adorns the console. Large basket weave pendants were added to the ceiling, and sconces added to the walls for an additional layer of light. The mural was maintained-- a nod to the bevy of birds dining on seeds in the feeders beyond the window. A fresh coat of white paint brightens up the woodwork and carries the same trim color throughout the house.

Kids' room - transitional kids' room idea
Kids' room - transitional kids' room idea

Built in 1951, this sprawling ranch style home has plenty of room for a large family, but the basement was vintage 50’s, with dark wood paneling and poor lighting. One redeeming feature was a curved bar, with multi-colored glass block lighting in the foot rest, wood paneling surround, and a red-orange laminate top. If one thing was to be saved, this was it.
Castle designed an open family, media & game room with a dining area near the vintage bar and an additional bedroom. Mid-century modern cabinetry was custom made to provide an open partition between the family and game rooms, as well as needed storage and display for family photos and mementos.
The enclosed, dark stairwell was opened to the new family space and a custom steel & cable railing system was installed. Lots of new lighting brings a bright, welcoming feel to the space. Now, the entire family can share and enjoy a part of the house that was previously uninviting and underused.
Come see this remodel during the 2018 Castle Home Tour, September 29-30, 2018!

We made a custom table out of this license-plate bike sign and covered it with glass. Added retro leather diner-style chairs and a bicycle rug for these bike loving clients.

Another transitional hall area, is fitted with a pair of swivel chairs. Conveniently located beside the wetbar, it's a nice little nook to have a cocktail and conversation, off of the game room.
