A hip young family moving from Boston tackled an enormous makeover of an antique colonial revival home in downtown Larchmont. The kitchen area was quite spacious but benefitted from a small bump out for a banquette and additional windows. Navy blue island and tall cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Van Deusen blue is balanced by crisp white (Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace) cabinetry on the perimeter. The mid-century inspired suspended fireplace adds warmth and style to the kitchen. A tile covered range hood blends the ventilation into the walls. Brushed brass hardware by Lewis Dolan in a contemporary T-bar shape offer clean lines in a warm metallic tone. White Marble countertops on the perimeter are balanced by white quartz composite on the island. Kitchen design and custom cabinetry by Studio Dearborn. Countertops by Rye Marble. The Asheville 8 Victorian/Greek Revival The Asheville 8 shows how historic styles meld as one style lost favor and another takes its place. This house would be seen in the 1840’s and ‘50s as the Greek Revival style was waning and the decorative and asymmetrical Victorian style emerged. The brackets at the roof eave, the two-over-two windows with capped trim, and four-panel door are all commonly seen in Italianate Victorian homes, while the lunette window in the gable and low-pedimented gable are remnants of the Greek Revival’s influence.

This classic Greek Revival style home can be found throughout New England. Note the details of the frieze and pilasters which make this new home look like one built in the mid 1800's. The traditional half story windows in the front and large dormers in the rear elevation light the 2nd floor.
