Westchester Whimsy This project was a two phase addition to a simple colonial house in Chappaqua, NY. Challenges for Daniel Contelmo included the hilly site, as well as the fact that the front entry lacked presence and the garage was the primary entry. Phase one added a family room, kitchen and breakfast room to the main level, and renovated a bedroom. New overhangs and brackets draw the eye away from the garage and place the focus on the house. Phase two completed the renovation and added space to the front of the house; this was an opportunity to add character to the bedrooms with a turret, and a vaulted ceiling in the bedroom over the entry. A new car pulloff allows visitors to view the front door rather than the garage. An open-air pool cabana with an outdoor fireplace and kitchen serves as a space for year-round activities. The final product was an exquisitely detailed and tastefully decorated home that integrates colonial and shingle style architecture with whimsical touches that give the house a more animated feel. This entry has just the right pop of color in the framed artwork stacked over the console. The tufted round ottomans provide extra seating if needed and are stored safely under the table. The table is upholstered in leather and has nickel nail head trim detail. The top is protected by a thin piece of glass. This Dallas high-rise condominium with a 360-degree view of the city reflects the client’s soft contemporary and transitional taste. Our goal was to create an ambiance of casual sophistication that also conveyed a calm, relaxing environment for the homeowner. We furnished the open floor plan, containing entry, living and dining areas plus three bedrooms. One bedroom featured a multi-purpose setup, as it doubled as a den for her teen son to hang out with his friends. Custom furnishings are unique and were sourced from top quality manufacturers.

At the other end of the home is this media room featuring a Velvet Aqua sectional and area rug that defines the TV screening area. An accent chair in the very bold pillow fabric is added to balance the seating area and a large Zebra cocktail ottoman for casual feet-up comfort in front of the sectional. An exterior entrance leads into an entry with a console on the left and a round table right front. The round entry table has Crocodile embossed leather stools that can be used as seating around the table or pulled into the screening area. Assorted trees and accessories ad to the coastal vibe while the selected furniture is more eclectic than overtly beachy.
