Grand Isle Log Cabin Summer Camp
Whole-House Renovation of a Grand Isle Log Cabin Summer Camp
Tucked among the pines in Grand Isle, Vermont, this classic log cabin summer camp had been a beloved family retreat for decades, but it was in need of significant updates to serve the next generation. We worked closely with the owners to complete a whole-house renovation, carefully preserving the cabin’s rustic charm while adding modern comforts and functionality.
The project included reworking the interior layout to create open, light-filled living spaces, upgrading the kitchen and baths, improving insulation, and modernizing mechanical systems — all with an eye toward durability and timeless style. Original log walls were restored and highlighted, and new woodwork was crafted to seamlessly match the old.
Now, this rejuvenated log cabin is ready to host family gatherings, children’s laughter, and long summer evenings for many, many years to come — a space where memories will continue to be made across generations.

This client wanted their Terrace Level to be comprised of the warm finishes and colors found in a true Tuscan home. Basement was completely unfinished so once we space planned for all necessary areas including pre-teen media area and game room, adult media area, home bar and wine cellar guest suite and bathroom; we started selecting materials that were authentic and yet low maintenance since the entire space opens to an outdoor living area with pool. The wood like porcelain tile used to create interest on floors was complimented by custom distressed beams on the ceilings. Real stucco walls and brick floors lit by a wrought iron lantern create a true wine cellar mood. A sloped fireplace designed with brick, stone and stucco was enhanced with the rustic wood beam mantle to resemble a fireplace seen in Italy while adding a perfect and unexpected rustic charm and coziness to the bar area. Finally decorative finishes were applied to columns for a layered and worn appearance. Tumbled stone backsplash behind the bar was hand painted for another one of a kind focal point. Some other important features are the double sided iron railed staircase designed to make the space feel more unified and open and the barrel ceiling in the wine cellar. Carefully selected furniture and accessories complete the look.

The cozy living room off the great room is designed in a warm rustic style that reflects the home’s lakeside setting. A stone-clad fireplace serves as the focal point, featuring a wood mantel and stone hearth that add texture and authenticity. Large doors open to a covered patio overlooking the beach of Lake Washington, creating a seamless connection between the intimate interior and the peaceful waterfront beyond.

Cortez real thin stone veneer from the Quarry Mill adds a beautiful rustic element as wainscoting and an accent wall to this stunning rustic cabin. Cortez real stone veneer is a house-made blend of natural quarried sandstones. The blend showcases both the natural mineral stained bedface as well as the more monochromatic interior part of the stone known as the split face. The individual pieces of real stone veneer will range in texture from rippled to sandy and smooth. With its range of natural earth tones, Cortez is versatile and complements a variety of other siding options such as brick, log, and stucco. Cortez can be installed with or without a mortar joint. A half-inch mortar joint is most common, but drystacking the stone gives a rustic yet modern feel.

This is our small cabin's dining area. You have to maximize space on a slope side cabin! It turned out very nicely!
