In this new construction home in Hinsdale, IL the design team at O’Brien Harris was brought in at the earliest stages of planning—allowing for seamless integration of cabinetry and architectural details. Early collaboration with the builder meant every functional need could be fully addressed, including custom framing for hidden lighting and other details that would have been difficult to retrofit. The kitchen features a unique layout that places the cook at the center of the space, facing the yard and natural light. This intentional orientation shaped the design from the start to create a layout that felt open, balanced, and multi-functional. Because the project was built from the ground up, O’Brien Harris was able to integrate downdraft ventilation systems that maintain sightlines allowing the range to face outward—achieving both form and function without compromise. Two kitchen islands define the space, though each serves a distinct purpose. The first island is centered around the cooktop and prep area, while the second acts more like a piece of freestanding furniture—with seating, storage, and a softer presence in the room. Four oversized pendant lanterns anchor the entire space, offering both visual weight and warm illumination. To support entertaining, a full back kitchen was added behind the main space, offering the same level of functionality with additional appliances and prep areas. A fully retractable pass-through window opens directly to the outdoor entertaining area, making the kitchen feel as expansive as the outdoors. O’Brien Harris also designed and fabricated the cabinetry in the primary bath.

A custom built-in with cabinetry for an 85" TV grounded the room with clean, modern architectural detail to balance the two-story height. A complete staircase reconstruction — new stringers, skirt boards, rail system, balusters, and newel posts — added structural integrity and refined architectural presence. This perspective highlights the seamless integration of a high-end culinary workspace within a classic Craftsman aesthetic. The expansive kitchen island, featuring a granite countertop with a built-in range, serves as the centerpiece of the room, perfectly positioned under a custom-framed art glass chandelier. This architectural light fixture acts as a jewelry piece for the kitchen, echoing the geometric precision found in traditional Mission-style design while casting a warm, ambient glow across the entire space. This Master Bedroom was a complete addition to an existing home, taking the project from the ground up and seamlessly integrating the new space with the original structure. Our team began by laying the foundation and framing the addition, followed by the installation of drywall, plaster, and exterior stucco. We also completed all of the electrical work, including the wiring and placement of the room's lighting fixtures before closing up the walls. Once the structure work was completed, we installed medium-toned hardwood flooring, new windows, and a sliding glass door that brings in natural light and provides direct access to the yard. To complete the space, we added decorative wall sconces, installed elegant wallpaper, and finished the ceiling with a fresh coat of paint. A beautiful hanging light fixture provides the focal point, creating a warm, artistic, and inviting master bedroom that blends seamlessly with the existing home.

When Ami McKay was asked by the owners of Park Place to design their new home, she found inspiration in both her own travels and the beautiful West Coast of Canada which she calls home. This circa-1912 Vancouver character home was torn down and rebuilt, and our fresh design plan allowed the owners dreams to come to life. A closer look at Park Place reveals an artful fusion of diverse influences and inspirations, beautifully brought together in one home. Within the kitchen alone, notable elements include the French-bistro backsplash, the arched vent hood (including hidden, seamlessly integrated shelves on each side), an apron-front kitchen sink (a nod to English Country kitchens), and a saturated color palette—all balanced by white oak millwork. Floor to ceiling cabinetry ensures that it’s also easy to keep this beautiful space clutter-free, with room for everything: chargers, stationery and keys. These influences carry on throughout the home, translating into thoughtful touches: gentle arches, welcoming dark green millwork, patterned tile, and an elevated vintage clawfoot bathtub in the cozy primary bathroom.

Our clients were looking to achieve a seamless integration between the main living timber floors and the new floors in the Kitchen space. Having Cork originally in the #MountLawleyProject, I suggested a large slab format Marble Porcelain tile in matte. This has really given the Kitchen a beautiful finish tying effortlessly into the matte grey, white, timber and concrete finished benchtops.

For this project, we used our EasyTouch handleless cabinetry in a sophisticated pairing of Sand and Taupe, bringing a subtle contrast and warmth to the room.
