The Tomar Court remodel was a whole home remodel focused on creating an open floor plan on the main level that is optimal for entertaining. By removing the walls separating the formal dining, formal living, kitchen and stair hallway, the main level was transformed into one spacious, open room. Throughout the main level, a custom white oak flooring was used. A three sided, double glass fireplace is the main feature in the new living room. The existing staircase was integrated into the kitchen island with a custom wall panel detail to match the kitchen cabinets. Off of the living room is the sun room with new floor to ceiling windows and all updated finishes. Tucked behind the sun room is a cozy hearth room. In the hearth room features a new gas fireplace insert, new stone, mitered edge limestone hearth, live edge black walnut mantle and a wood feature wall. Off of the kitchen, the mud room was refreshed with all new cabinetry, new tile floors, updated powder bath and a hidden pantry off of the kitchen. Rob and Danielle have three children and wanted a kitchen redesign that would function better for their active household. Their kitchen contained tight spaces with a narrow island that blocked flow through the room. Two cooks in the kitchen were one too many as the space wasn’t conducive for it. For entertaining, the island proved to be too small to set out all their food and have room around it for guests to congregate. The only way to walk to the great room, which was where the family hung out most often, was to go through the kitchen and dining area, proving to again congest the area. They are avid sailors, and wanted to bring in the color of the sea into their contemporary design. I added a separate entry point directly from the kitchen to the great room, and created a work triangle in a separate area to relieve the congestion from people passing through the room. The island shape and size were uniquely designed to allow the person at the sink to be able to look directly into the great room, and provide ample space to spread out food for entertaining. A bookcase was integrated into the island to display cookbooks, and the paneled refrigerator made for a seamless wall of beautiful cabinetry. The entry into the formal dining was relocated to remove the necessity of having corner cabinetry. A separate bar area allows family and guests to make their drinks without needing to go into the chef’s space. The glass backsplash tile was selected to reflect the sea colors they love, with crystal pendants to add bling similar to the light that reflects off the water.

The old kitchen was outdated, cramped and had inefficient storage. It didn’t flow well with the rest of the home nor serve the needs of the family of four, who like to entertain and host the neighborhood kids on a regular basis. The client desired a large open concept kitchen with multiple zones for cooking, prep and cleanup that complimented the style of her home. She desired large pantry areas with easy access, a table area that could seat 6, as well as separate snack zone for the kids. The new kitchen design is an open concept space that combines the existing kitchen with a rarely used dining area and large walk-in closet. Distinct and separate cook, cleanup and prep zones, appeal to the cook while a separate snack area behind one of the barn doors is geared towards the children. Convenience items such as dual refrigerator drawers at one end of the island and a wine fridge at the other appeal to adults and kids alike. White perimeter cabinetry with a subtle moldings and grey glaze adds softness and sophistication, while stunning black painted islands ground the center of the space. Texture is added in the warm wood floors, gorgeous Super White Quartz countertop and variegated marble backsplash. The icing on the cake is brought in with a little glitz and shine thru the pendant lighting and chrome accents. The rays of the existing half circle window were the inspiration for the X detail which is repeated throughout the space in the glass door mullions, pantry barn doors, and tile feature area over the cooktop.
