The functionality of this spacious kitchen is a far cry from its humble beginnings as a lackluster 9 x 12 foot stretch. The exterior wall was blown out to allow for a 10 ft addition. The daring slab of Calacatta Vagli marble with intrepid British racing green veining was the inspiration for the expansion. Spanish Revival pendants reclaimed from a local restaurant, long forgotten, are a pinnacle feature over the island. Reclaimed wood drawers, juxtaposed with custom glass cupboards add gobs of storage. Cabinets are painted the same luxe green hue and the warmth of butcher block counters create a hard working bar area begging for character-worn use. The perimeter of the kitchen features soapstone counters and that nicely balance the whisper of mushroom-colored custom cabinets. Hand-made 4x4 zellige tiles, hung in a running bond pattern, pay sweet homage to the 1950’s era of the home. A large window flanked by antique brass sconces adds bonus natural light over the sink. Textural, centuries-old barn wood surrounding the range hood adds a cozy surprise element. Matte white appliances with brushed bronze and copper hardware tie in the mixed metals throughout the kitchen helping meld the overall dramatic design.

My client came to us with a request to make a contemporary meets warm and inviting 17 foot dining table using only 15 foot long, extra wide "Kingswood" boards from their 1700's attic floor. The bases are vintage cast iron circa 1900 Adam's Brothers - Providence, RI.

This home outside of Philadelphia was designed to be family friendly and comfortable space and is just the place to relax and spend family time as well as have enough seating for entertaining. The living room has a large sectional to cozy up with a movie or to entertain. The historic home is bright and open all while feeling collected, comfortable and cozy. The applied box molding on the living room wall adds a subtle pattern all while being a striking focal point for the room. The grand foyer is fresh and inviting and uncluttered and allows for ample space for guests to be welcomed to the home. The Goody Nook, named by the owners in honor of one of their Great Grandmother's and Great Aunts after their bake shop they ran in Ohio to sell baked goods, thought it fitting since this space is a place to enjoy all things that bring them joy and happiness. This studio, which functions as an art studio, workout space, and hangout spot, also doubles as an entertaining hub. Used daily, the large table is usually covered in art supplies, but can also function as a place for sweets, treats, and horderves for any event, in tandem with the kitchenette adorned with a bright green countertop. An intimate sitting area with 2 lounge chairs face an inviting ribbon fireplace and TV, also doubles as space for them to workout in. The powder room, with matching green counters, is lined with a bright, fun wallpaper, that you can see all the way from the pool, and really plays into the fun art feel of the space. With a bright multi colored rug and lime green stools, the space is finished with a custom neon sign adorning the namesake of the space, "The Goody Nook”.

The goals were to update the look of the space, enclose the washer/dryer, upgrade the appliances and the cabinets. The space is located in turn-of-the-century brownstone, so we tried to stay in keeping with that era but provide an updated and functional space. One of the primary challenges of this project was a chimney that jutted into the space. The old configuration meandered around the chimney creating some strange configurations and odd depths for the countertop. We finally decided that just flushing out the wall along the chimney instead would create a cleaner look and in the end a better functioning space. It also created the opportunity to access those new pockets of space behind the wall with appliance garages to create a unique and functional feature. The new galley kitchen has the sink on one side and the range opposite with the refrigerator on the end of the run. This very functional layout also provides large runs of counter space and plenty of storage. The washer/dryer were relocated to the opposite side of the kitchen per the client's request, and hide behind a large custom bi-fold door when not in use. A wine fridge and microwave are tucked under the counter so that the primary visual is the custom mullioned doors with antique glass and custom marble backsplash design. White cabinetry, Carrera countertops and an apron sink complete the vintage feel of the space, and polished nickel hardware and light fixtures add a little bit of bling. Our clients came to us wanting to update their kitchen while keeping their traditional and timeless style. They desired to open up the kitchen to the dining room and to widen doorways to make the kitchen feel less closed off from the rest of the home. They wanted to create more functional storage and working space at the island. Other goals were to replace the sliding doors to the back deck, add mudroom storage and update lighting for a brighter, cleaner look. We created a kitchen and dining space that brings our homeowners joy to cook, dine and spend time together in. We installed a longer, more functional island with barstool seating in the kitchen. We added pantry cabinets with roll out shelves. We widened the doorways and opened up the wall between the kitchen and dining room. We added cabinetry with glass display doors in the kitchen and also the dining room. We updated the lighting and replaced sliding doors to the back deck. In the mudroom, we added closed storage and a built-in bench.
