Log Stack Siding is the use of sleepers or hand hewn timbers from 18th century colonial America to create the look of a log cabin, but with the ability to have the insulation and construction of a modern building. By working up from to end, so as to leave the ends or tails full, the timbers are split. The material is then used as horizontal siding, with the full ends coming together to form the corner of the building - just like a traditional log cabin. Due to the corner log stack, there is a small gap between each siding piece which is filled with chinking to seal the gaps between the logs.

The living room layout allows a couch lounger to chat with someone in the kitchen. We covered the sofa in a casual Pierre Frey fabric and added a few soft faux fur pillows for touchable texture. A graphic David Adler moroccan rug contrasts with red and turquoise Roman shades (one of our favorite color combinations ever). Crisp white side tables, breezy lamps and a modern-meets-rustic wood and acrylic coffee table were picked for ultra-cool “chic cabin” flair.
Design Detail: To break up the long, skinny space and maximize the conversation area, we placed the furniture on opposite walls. Punchy window treatments provide texture and movement for the eye. The gorgeous watercolor titled “Pop” by Peter Haslam-Fox offers a bit of quiet simplicity to an otherwise colorful room. Photographer: Carrie Patterson

In the basement level of the lake home, a cozy family room with wood paneled walls and ceilings, intimate sconce lighting and plush, cozy furniture is the perfect place to curl up and watch a movie on a cold Minnesota night.

Perched on a hilltop high in the Myacama mountains is a vineyard property that exists off-the-grid. This peaceful parcel is home to Cornell Vineyards, a winery known for robust cabernets and a casual ‘back to the land’ sensibility. We were tasked with designing a simple refresh of two existing buildings that dually function as a weekend house for the proprietor’s family and a platform to entertain winery guests. We had fun incorporating our client’s Asian art and antiques that are highlighted in both living areas. Paired with a mix of neutral textures and tones we set out to create a casual California style reflective of its surrounding landscape and the winery brand.

Reminisce about your favorite beachfront destination and your mind’s eye evokes a serene, comfortable cottage with windows thrown open to catch the air, and the relaxing sound of waves nearby. In the shade of the porch, a hammock sways invitingly in the breeze.
The color palette is simple and clean, with hues of white, like sunlight reflecting off sand, and blue-grays, the color of sky and water. Wood surfaces have soft painted finishes or a scrubbed-clean, natural wood look. “Cottage” styling is carefree living, where every element conspires to create a casual environment for comfort and relaxation.
This cottage kitchen features Antique White and Mineral painted cabinetry. These soft hues bring in the clean and simplicity of Cottage Style. As for hardware, bin pulls are a popular choice and make working in the kitchen much easier.
