A neutral colour palette was the main aspect of the brief setting the tone for a sophisticated and elegant home. We chose to go with a white laundry as it is timeless and classic. This laundry exudes a sense of elegance, cleanliness, and freshness. The white backdrop elegantly allows the floating timber shelves, the captivating wavy splashback tiles, and the eye-catching brushed gold tapware and handles to take center stage as the focal points of the space.

The existing timber shelf above the existing masonry chimney opening was also kept. A LED light strip was added to its underside to provide additional focus to this original feature. A powerpack rangehood was installed into the existing masonry chimney cavity. A feature tile was used to walls and floor of this area to house the freestanding hob / oven.

New gloss white ‘lacquer’ cabinets with discrete handles were contrasted with black granite countertops. A pelmet capped the tall cabinets creating a consistent horizontal line, taking the eye away from the beam and angled ceiling.

The client was inspired by Gustav Klimt's 'The Kiss'. The painting focuses on romantic intimacy depicting a couple locked in an intimate embrace against a gold background. Paintings such as The Kiss are visual manifestations of fin-de-siecle spirit because they capture a decadence conveyed by opulent and sensuous images. Inspired by the opulence the client chose a wallpaper with strong gold geometrics. All the other walls including the wardrobe are kept dark blue to make the gold stand out.

Its intensity of colour and its grain make for a wonderful feature island benchtop. The clients fell in love with this stone, as for them it evoked Pounamu.

It is a light colour tile with darker flecks and gently undulating vein patterning reminiscent of sandy shorelines. It has a smooth matt surface that feels lovely to the touch and is very easy to clean. We used this tile on both the walls and the floor of this Family bathroom. We combined the tile with feature mosaics and pebbles to add interest and texture. The mosaic has glass pieces which catch the light and reflect it. The pebbles have an impeccably smooth feel and while neutral in tone the variance in stone colours create a dynamic interplay. The brushed gold tapware possesses a gentle hue, and its brushed finish exudes a timeless, classic appeal.
