We all crave a space where we can switch off from the world at the end of the day. Bedrooms should therefore be a restful haven. Textures are the ideal way to give the bedroom a restful feel. Wallcovering can create a background to give your sleep space a peaceful feel. Knitted fabrics on the bed and textures in the curtains bring a small dose of pretty pattern into the space. To be really relaxed in your bedroom, you need soft surfaces to sit, walk and sleep on. Layering the space with sumptuous textures that are arranged neatly and a simple colour palette will keep the room feeling calm and harmonious. The wallpaper print is called Heavenly Drapes and it does create a backdrop that is restful, yet inspirational. The curtain fabric adds texture, while the colour blends into the wall. The wardrobe sliding doors are back painted glass. The colour is the same as the walls, but the glass adds depth and a different level of gloss.

A cabin in Western Wisconsin is transformed from within to become a serene and modern retreat. In a past life, this cabin was a fishing cottage which was part of a resort built in the 1920’s on a small lake not far from the Twin Cities. The cabin has had multiple additions over the years so improving flow to the outdoor space, creating a family friendly kitchen, and relocating a bigger master bedroom on the lake side were priorities. The solution was to bring the kitchen from the back of the cabin up to the front, reduce the size of an overly large bedroom in the back in order to create a more generous front entry way/mudroom adjacent to the kitchen, and add a fireplace in the center of the main floor. This family bathroom has an 1800mm long vanity providing ample benchtop space with a lit niche for additional storage. Different tile sizes were used to create interest and feature the different areas. The tiled shower with the glass screen and door makes the space feel larger. The back-to-wall bath has a freestanding feel and makes the space feel larger by being able to see to the wall behind. The fittings are gold to offset the white on white textural elements.

Our main focus is to work with clients to get a good sense of their personal style, what features they’re most attracted to, and balance those with the fundamental principles of good design – function, balance, proportion and flow – to make sure that they have a unified vision for the home. After extensive demolition of the kitchen, family room, master bath, laundry room, powder room, master bedroom and adjacent hallways, we began transforming the space into one that the family could truly utilize in an all new way. In addition to installing structural beams to support the second floor loads and pushing out two non-structural walls in order to enlarge the master bath, the renovation team installed a new kitchen island, added quartz countertops in the kitchen and master bath plus installed new Kohler sinks, toilets and accessories in the kitchen and bath. Underscoring the belief that an open great room should offer a welcoming environment, the renovated space now offers an inviting haven for the homeowners and their guests. The open family room boasts a new gas fireplace complete with custom surround, mantel and bookcases. Underfoot, hardwood floors featuring American walnut add warmth to the home’s interior. Continuity is achieved throughout the first floor by accenting posts, handrails and spindles all with the same rich walnut.
