Carol requesting warmth in their home so I had to do it with adding textiles while using a cooler color palette. Upon digging deeper I realized that both Carol and John were exactly 2 opposites of the style spectrum. Carol loved the beach she loved anything Cape Cod she liked the grays the beiges the neutrals while John had a more modern condo bachelor city style to him. The toughest part was finding the furniture style balance that complemented both of them, so that they can live in this house comfortably and enjoy forever. Here are the highlights of the rest of the project: Came up with a spacial plan, color, and fabric scheme that worked for where the couple is today. Used seating groupings to break up a otherwise large room Reused a couple pieces of furniture and accessories. Selected all furnishings, accessories, and art. Customized an entertainment piece that has since kept John in the living room and out of the basement. What I love: They gave me the go ahead to mix up styles, all while keeping the palette fresh and clean. Those damn rugs. I have since ordered 1 for my own home The art on the fireplace. “The River District Cottage”, a neglected and run down 1930s home. Despite its unique challenges, our team created a beautifully renewed home and preserved its historic River District charm. As we studied the design of the cottage, we realized the need to start from the street inward, updating all of the utilities and mechanical systems in addition to preserving the original personality of this home. The interior traffic flow was considered, resulting in the decision to create additional square footage, as well as reorganize the existing space. Once the floor plan was set, the design details had to be worked through. A lot of attention was given to the exterior as well as the interior. We did not want to simply discard the old, but restore and complement it wherever possible. The home had a hint of the classic Florida Art Deco feel and we continued that theme, from custom baseboard and casing, clean line Italian cabinetry, and the strategic use of glass tile. In order to match the existing wood floors, heart pine flooring was brought in from Georgia, resulting in a richness flowing throughout the home. Energy efficient Kitchen Aid and Bosch appliances in the kitchen were set off by the stylish granite tops. Careful attention was given to delivering efficient air quality throughout this renovated home. In keeping consistent with the original design, plenty of energy efficient windows and doors were used to allow the blending of indoor and outside space, making the home light and airy feeling. We believe the unique challenges of giving new life to this classic home have been met, including “art walls” to encourage a new set of memories for the owner of this beautifully restored home.

We were only about 5 months out from that date, but decided we were up for the challenge. The beautiful historical home was built in 1896 by an ornithologist (bird expert), so we took our cues from that as a starting point. The flooring is a vintage basket weave of marble and limestone, the shower walls of the tub shower conversion are clad in subway tile with a vintage feel. The lighting, mirror and plumbing fixtures all have a vintage vibe that feels both fitting and up to date. To give a little of an eclectic feel, we chose a custom green paint color for the linen cabinet, mushroom paint for the ship lap paneling that clads the walls and selected a vintage mirror that ties in the color from the existing door trim. We utilized some antique trim from the home for the wainscot cap for more vintage flavor. The drama in the bathroom comes from the wallpaper and custom shower curtain, both in William Morris’s iconic “Strawberry Thief” print that tells the story of thrushes stealing fruit, so fitting for the home’s history. There is a lot of this pattern in a very small space, so we were careful to make sure the pattern on the wallpaper and shower curtain aligned. A sweet little bird tie back for the shower curtain completes the story... This was my first time at the bat, and I really had no idea what to expect. I had many contractor proposals that swung wildly in price but for some reason I never felt inclined to hire any of the guys I met with. I happened to be looking at Houzz one day and came across Paul’s company and he had very good reviews. I gave him a call and he came to my apartment quickly. I liked him immediately when we met. I thought it was strange that he asked me for my budget and how much I wanted to spend but in hindsight, providing that information allowed Paul to come back to me with a very detailed proposal based on my budget. I soon realized that the lower proposals I had did not include many of the budget items that would be necessary to complete the job. Paul laid out the pricing and provided a very reasonable “allowance” based on your measurements for tile, toilet, sinks, etc. It is up to you to stay within that allowance.

The house was in an ideal location but needed to be expanded. Design Builders & Remodeling almost doubled the square footage of the home. Creating a new sunny and spacious master bedroom, new guestroom, laundry room, garage, kids bathroom, expanded and renovated the kitchen, family room, and playroom. The upgrades and addition is seamlessly and thoughtfully integrated to the original footprint.

Upon meeting the homeowners of this Nazareth remodel, we quickly realized this was not their first rodeo when it came to kitchen renovations. The project started with a very orange oak kitchen with an awkward layout that did not work for their family. The new u-shaped layout keeps everything needed for preparing daily meals within arms reach, while a central island serves as a landing space and buffet for family gatherings. Undercabinet lighting highlights the gorgeous Fireclay Tile backsplash and Bianco Rafaele marble, while Kichler pendants illuminate the island. The wall was extended at the end of the sink run to allow us to create a small office nook, perfect for typing a quick email or looking up a recipe, and an adjacent bar area allows guests to concoct their own drinks, away from the food prep. The existing split foyer had vinyl siding and a tremendous amount of horizontal lines - a new flagstone walk way and steps were being added with a complete exterior makeover in the beginning stages... After meeting with the client and the landscaper - we realized we needed to develop a covered entry that would really invite you into the home and unify the all work that had been started. The new stone entrance helped you locate the front door but, the exterior finishes did not mesh well; they needed updated. The focal point should be the entry. The split foyer entrance and all the gables definitely created a challenge. The solution: We incorporated exposed cedar beams and exposed cedar roof rafters with a mahogany tongue and groove ceiling to give the entry a warm and different feel. A flag stone walk way anchors the entrance, so we chose to use stone piers to match and large square tapered columns that would support the new entry roof, the covered entry takes shape. Many details are needed to create a proper entry, copper half round gutters with square link copper rain chains are the finishing touches to the grand entry for this home. The exterior siding was changed to a wide exposure cement board siding by the James Hardie company. We used cement shake panels to accent the built out gable areas. The transitions between the siding materials were simplified to achieve a cleaner finished look. New window and door trim, 5/4 x 4 and 5/4 x 6 pvc, complete an almost maintenance free exterior.
