Sentinel stretches across the brow of a winding grade break high above the Napa Valley. This seasonal residence was conceived as an agrarian compound which draws inspiration from its agricultural roots and takes a leap forward in innovative construction and a modern expression of timber and steel craft.
A gently curving gravel drive circuits the lower end of the vineyard, announcing the arrival on the property. The drive slowly straightens to align with the vineyard rows to the North and the long axis of the residential structures to the South. Three gable-end barn forms follow the ordered lines of the vineyard to one side, and on the other, hug the rock-lined edge of the forest. Flanked by main residence and guest residence on either side, the taller, middle barn structure steps back from the forest to form a broad terrace. An elegant trellised colonnade threads through the three buildings, providing shade and dappled light to the terrace – a private place for food and wine to be enjoyed overlooking the magnificent valley below.

YOU DON'T CHANGE A CLASSIC. YOU REFINE IT. | Tara is the contemporary interpretation of a design icon. Evolution in design, in architecture, new finishes and colors. These are small changes, fine details. But it is precisely these details that determine the class of Tara. Tara looks even more elegant. The extended body formally straightens up the fitting. The rosettes and handles are more streamlined, and the overall contours are sharper. All this is done to put even greater emphasis on the perfect, geometric, symmetric and clear use of form and to concentrate and refocus. TARA has set the standard for more than a decade. Tara will set the standard for the future. | Available at www.shopstudio41.com

This timeless kitchen is the perfect example of how rich color sets the mood. Inspired by Sherwin-Williams’ Dried Thyme, the green cabinetry brings a warm and contemporary look. The kitchen’s original layout is what attracted the owners to this home so with a few changes, the space now better fits the owners’ needs.
Straightening out a wall by the large bay window provided space to move the dishwasher, and gave room to build a tall cabinet with organized pullout drawers next to the stove for easy access and storage. This also created room to build a hidden appliance garage and flipping the location of the island sink provided more accessibility to the stove.
The bow front stove hood provides visual relief for the linear nature of the cabinets. Green ceramic tiles surround the porcelain herringbone tile in the contrasting niche dedicated to spices and oils, and the adjacent pot filler provides convenience.
The island was increased in size to provide for more storage and metal domed pendants provide lighting for both prepping and eating. Double-wall ovens have side handles for easy opening and convenience and provide easy access in a busy kitchen area.
Separating the dining room from the kitchen with the addition of a butler door, created space to easily connect and move between the two rooms while minimizing noise.

This kitchen was your typical builder basic design. Lot's of cabinets with no thought for function. An odd shaped island that took up space, but didn't provide much storage. We straightened out the island to create more storage and loads of function. It now has the sink, dishwasher, trash center, bookcase, mixer cabinet and microwave drawer plus more! We removed the wall double ovens and added a 48" range instead. This allowed us to flank either side of the fridge with roll out pantry cabinets. An appliance garage was added to the corner. The range has a custom hood over it that blends seamlessly with the cabinets. The client needed a space to sit and check the mail so we created an office space at the end of the wall. Behind the blinds is a new 10' slider for access to the patio. Luxury vinyl plank flooring went in throughout the house. Custom pendant lights were hung in clusters of three above the island. The kitchen was painted Accessible Beige by SW.

This homeowner had a friend that had a leak and she was afraid if she developed a leak in her plumbing it would ruin her beautifully remodeled kitchen downstairs. So her answer was to replace the plumbing and remodel the bathroom.
She selected quarter sawn oak cabinets and accented them with Colonial white granite. The beautiful temple brick "Perfect Road" tile on the shower walls is highlighted by a vertical jade iridescent strip. The herringbone pattern on the floor just seems to help pull the entire space together. We built a custom storage dresser out of Showplace cabinets to mimic the look of something this homeowner had seen online.

We Minnesotans understand that winters can be long, cold, and dark. Sunshine is a precious commodity in the middle of February. We designed the second-floor addition to let the sunshine in and make this the brightest room in the home.
Two skylights were added to the stair well, with three more in the new addition.
The second-floor landing was extended into the new space. Following the home’s existing architecture, this new 300 sq. ft. room features dormers with high-efficiency windows. Additional storage was created with several built-in closets in both the hallway and the addition.
These photos were taken in March. With all the skylights facing the South, you can imagine how bright this room will be year-round.
The remodeled staircase leads to the second floor and the new addition. The stair's risers, handrail, and banister are white, a master design detail that flows from the first floor to the second.
The stair treads and new room flooring are constructed with 1 ½ inch solid Red Oak, an excellent choice that soaks up sunshine and offers a complement to the light gray walls and white trim and accents.
I hate dusting. Doesn't everyone? The arrow above points to a place where dust can collect on mission-style railings, right at the crevice of the bottom of the stair railing. That severe crack makes it difficult to clean. On my projects (like the one above), the bottom rail straightens out and then connects to the banister at a right angle, eliminating the dust trap which is always hard to reach!

This walkway was existing but slooped towards the house. It was lifted, more bluestone chip added, some roots cut to level the stones and all steps straightened for easier access.

A pullout for hair tools; hair dryer, straightener, curling iron, was incorporated on her side of the vanity. The stainless steel tubs allow for storing warm tools, and the shelf below is great additional storage space.

We renovated this stairwell and landing from carpet to stained hardwood to match the updated floors in the house and extended the landing. We then straightened the angle of the stair on the landing for easier access. To finish the project we painted all base trim and applied Polyurethane to seal.

Kayla Carter of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Wilmington, NC, designed a contemporary kitchen and primary bath. Both spaces feature Masterpiece Cabinetry in the Martel door style.
In the kitchen, the perimeter cabinets are in a Frost finish, and the island is in Maple in a Wicker finish, complimented by Silestone Et Marquina countertops.
In the primary bath, the vanity cabinets are also in Maple in a Wicker finish with Emerald Green quartzite for the vanity top and shower benches.
Kayla shared, “The biggest challenge was reworking the existing space to create more room. We removed a knee wall and straightened the layout to make space for a larger island, which opened up the kitchen. My favorite part of this design is the Emerald Green countertops on the master vanity and shower benches. They pair perfectly with the green shower tile. I also enjoyed that the client was willing to step outside the box and choose combinations you don’t see every day.”

Both the master bath and the guest bath were in dire need of a remodel. The guest bath was a much simpler project, basically replacing what was there in the same location with upgraded cabinets, tile, fittings fixtures and lighting. The most dramatic feature is the patterned floor tile and the navy blue painted ship lap wall behind the vanity.
The master was another project. First, we enlarged the bathroom and an adjacent closet by straightening out the walls across the entire length of the bedroom. This gave us the space to create a lovely bathroom complete with a double bowl sink, medicine cabinet, wash let toilet and a beautiful shower.
