Before – Staircase: Unsafe, Worn, and Severely Outdated The original staircase was in unsafe condition, with loose, unstable steps covered in moldy carpet and a strong pet odor. The metal railings were rusted, chipped, and visually unappealing, adding to the overall sense of neglect. The entire structure felt insecure, dirty, and outdated. As part of the renovation, all steps were replaced and securely fixed, using the same luxury vinyl flooring as the rest of the home to create a seamless, cohesive look. The railing was fully restored and refinished, giving the staircase a clean, modern, and safe new life.

This custom Ipe fence was just right to create a buffer between the driveway and the garden. The clients were interested in growing food as well as keeping bees (bees were in the rear garden). The welded wire mesh allowed for viewing the garden from outside the fence and the strong Ipe structure was a perfect hoist for the Kiwi vines to grow on.

Bamboo has a golden color and fine pore structure, and is exceedingly hard-wearing. As bamboo consists of several layers, it has an exciting pattern when viewed from the side. This also makes bamboo extremely strong. Certain product types are available with FSC-certified wood.

The main barn is viewed from beneath the deep overhang of a neighboring structure, with rugged log columns acting as a natural frame around the central building. This layered composition creates a strong sense of arrival: shaded timber and concrete define the foreground, a broad gravel court occupies the middle ground, and the green barn, landscaped beds, and autumn woodland complete the view. Olive siding, gray-brown shingles, exposed logs, pale gravel, and weathered stone form an earthy palette enlivened by seasonal flowers and blue sky. Strong directional sunlight produces dramatic bands of light and shadow, emphasizing the tactile differences between bark, gravel, wood, and foliage. The architecture recalls an Adirondack farm compound or refined equestrian courtyard. Passing through this threshold would feel grounded and anticipatory, with the natural materials creating a reassuring transition from one sheltered space to another.

A typical older home in the Bay Area in need of a refreshment, the clients turned to Freeman Design Group to bring new life to this house. In addition, the family wanted to create a multi-generational structure for their parents by adding an ADU. We created a welcoming street scape facade and reorgainzed and simplified the interior layout to have strong connections to the new large covered patio in the rear yard. Warm, airy, sun filled and modern fully describes this house.

This photo is taken from inside the original garage/apartment structure and the sink is still in its original location! The wall and window above the sink were removed and replaced with a substantial beam. The kitchen was reconfigured slightly, and the countertops at the remaining sink were replaced to create an island. The large drywalled opening opposite the sink leads into the new dining room, and beyond that is the new great room. I planned everything to maintain this strong sense of centering and balance.

Stylish brewery owners with airline miles that match George Clooney’s decided to hire Regan Baker Design to transform their beloved Duboce Park second home into an organic modern oasis reflecting their modern aesthetic and sustainable, green conscience lifestyle. From hops to floors, we worked extensively with our design savvy clients to provide a new footprint for their kitchen, dining and living room area, redesigned three bathrooms, reconfigured and designed the master suite, and replaced an existing spiral staircase with a new modern, steel staircase. We collaborated with an architect to expedite the permit process, as well as hired a structural engineer to help with the new loads from removing the stairs and load bearing walls in the kitchen and Master bedroom. We also used LED light fixtures, FSC certified cabinetry and low VOC paint finishes. Regan Baker Design was responsible for the overall schematics, design development, construction documentation, construction administration, as well as the selection and procurement of all fixtures, cabinets, equipment, furniture, and accessories. A 1900 sq. ft. family home for five in the heart of the Flatiron District. The family had strong ties to Bali, going continuously yearly. The goal was to provide them with Bali's warmth in the structured and buzzing city that is New York. The space is completely personalized; many pieces are from their collection of Balinese furniture, some of which were repurposed to make pieces like chairs and tables. The rooms called for warm tones and woods that weaved throughout the space through contrasting colors and mixed materials. A space with a story, a magical jungle juxtaposed with the modernism of the city.

New Concrete Installation In this section of the basement, we replaced the old foundation with a fresh concrete slab, ensuring durability and a leveled surface. This preparation is transitional work, designed to provide a strong and stable base for future flooring installation. By addressing the structure now, the space is ready to be transformed into a functional and finished area in the next phase of the project.
