The original kitchen was tight and cramped, offering little storage and function. the clients wanted more countertop space and more storage solutions. They also wanted an open space plan, with views into their backyard, and to allow more natural light into the space. The wall separating the kitchen and living space was removed and a large picturesque window was installed above the sink, creating a large and open space. Opening up the kitchen to make a great room transformed this living room! Incorporating light wood floor, light wood cabinets, exposed beams gave us a stunning wood on wood design. Using the existing traditional furniture and adding clean lines turned this living space into a transitional open living space. Adding a large Serena & Lily chandelier and honeycomb island lighting gave this space the perfect impact. The large central island grounds the space and adds plenty of working counter space. Bring on the guests!

Design by Astro Design Centre - Ottawa, Canada Photo by DoubleSpace Photography The large tiled Travertine wall meets a smaller scaled subway tile to connect the shower to the vanity wall. The vanity was designed to compliment a free standing piece of bedroom furniture. The shaker drawers marry the traditional details with an oversized contemporary build up of the counter. A trough sink equipped with two faucets addresses the challenge of ‘his and hers’ sinks in a master. The uninterrupted mirror length with built in sconces, further add to the concept of interconnecting the various functions of the bathroom.

This built-in window seat creates not only extra seating in this small living room but adds a cozy spot to curl up and read a book. A niche spot in the home adding storage and fun!
