This airy living room was conceived around the homeowners love of art and nature. A palette derived from sea and sand, natural elements were brought in both literally and figuratively. Warm wood and earthen accents are countered by sleek, modern accent chairs. The embroidered linen draperies draw the eye up and serve as a dramatic backdrop to the serene conversation area. Oversized mirrors transfer the ambient light throughout the room. The centerpiece of the room is a silk and copper aerial sculpture by artist Jan R. Carson (www.janrcarson.com) that is accented by a halogen spotlight. The lighting casts an ever-changing shadow, creating life and whimsy to the room. The homeowners have even been known to move the furniture back, spotlight the mobile, and use the room as a salsa dance floor! A reclaimed hand-carved door was repurposed as a coffee table. We feel a waterfall of emotion when we enter this monochromatic kitchen. The focus of this remodel was to update the clean lines and maintain the modern style. This was accomplished through the use of a bright white shaker style cabinet with a contemporary 2 step style and built-in appliances. The client expressed that organization and functionality of their cabinet interiors was a priority for them so we incorporated utensil, drawer and corner storage solutions that transfer their items with the slightest pull. A waterfall edge on the peninsula counter top shows off the beautiful marble stone and creates a feature unique to this kitchen. Please note that phase I, the kitchen, was completed while Kay was employed by Redstone Kitchens. When a Historic District home was renovated in Fort Myers, a dream kitchen was created: open plan enough for gathering, with clearly delineated areas for cooking, reading and entertaining. Challenge Bill and Alison’s existing kitchen was small and dysfunctional. Each room seemed independent, and there was no flow through the house. The house felt small, with one entry and exit point. As a planning consultant, Bill was no stranger to construction. He was a general contractor himself and had built several custom homes in years past. As a gardening enthusiast and professional educator, Alison also had an eye for design. They started with design, layout and planning on their own, but soon realized they needed help. After interviewing several contractors who seemed overwhelmed and unenthused by their project, they reached out to Progressive Design Build. Solution Mike was not only enthused about the project, but he established trust with Bill and Alison. Within a few short weeks he was hired to begin the planning phase, conducting thorough research on the project, meeting key subcontractors and establishing a realistic budget. When the project began, internal walls were removed to open up the kitchen/dining areas and an island was built, giving the space an open and modern functionality. The eating area was enlarged, and a visual connection to the outside was established using Marvin insulated glass windows with Low E coatings—which rejects solar heat gain without reducing visible light passing through the glass. In order to allow for the open concept layout that Bill and Alison desired, we built new structural beams to transfer the live load. The sliding patio doors opened onto a small terrace with a wrought iron handrail creating access to the private courtyard and garden area. Finishing details included custom cherry cabinets and wood trimming, 16” x 32” natural stone flooring, granite countertops and historically correct plaster finishes. Result The project was completed within budget and two weeks ahead of schedule. “That planning phase was the best money we spent on the project,” exclaimed Bill. “It was incredibly gratifying being able to watch the subcontractors and suppliers come and go with shared leadership and attention to details.”

I turned the second bedroom of a rented duplex house into a home office for my KU-alum girlfriend as a surprise. The one thing she wanted was a desk that looked out the window. I bought a basketball rack from someone on CraigsList, then printed placards for each end. The weight of the books was too much for the aluminum rack, necessitating the wood supports. I printed the Big 12 Conference logo on sticker paper and carefully trimmed it, affixing it to a black folding chair we already had to evoke the courtside chairs at the annual post-season tournament. The wood crate was just a few dollars at Home Depot. I used an iron-on transfer to 'paint' the logos, knowing they would be imperfect and feel aged.

This beautiful master suite was added onto an existing home providing the client with a needed “get away” feeling from their busy schedules. Inspired by their world travels, I wanted to give them an exotic feel using art and collectables from their ever-growing collection. The reading nook, one step down, in the master bedroom provides an escape while putting you right in the garden just outside the windows. The clever drapery treatment on a ceiling track allows control of the lighting from the rest of the bedroom for those late-night reading sessions without disturbing the sleeper nearby. The textures of the stone, tile, wood and grass cloth along with the pillows, fabrics, trims, and accents creates an interesting backdrop for the lighting, art and furnishings. To allow the closet and bathroom some privacy without feeling cut off, custom doors with bamboo infused 3M panels of acrylic were used for texture, interest and light transference.

The aesthetic palette, paired with a loud and quirky speakeasy vibe, creates a fun atmosphere that reflects the owners’ personalities. The result is not just a studio that feels effortless—it’s an inspiring environment where writing, mixing, and production can happen with minimal sound transmission. Behind the walls, the architectural acoustics are second to none. The design emphasizes a true “plug-and-play” workflow: each control room, both isolation booths, and all common areas are acoustically isolated with extraordinary attention to detail. Each suite is equipped with dedicated, silent 1:1 HVAC systems. This gorgeous contemporary glass front custom wine cellar in Corona Del Mar, Newport Beach, California is an eye catcher. The sleek, glass ultra modern wine room was a unique and exciting project for our team here at Vintage Cellars. The stone bar extends into the wine cellar itself, but due to mechanical, cooling, and condensation concerns, our expert custom wine cellar team knew that extra measures needed to be taken to ensure the end quality remained top notch. The bar itself was divided into two sections, one cut section outside to make up the main seating area and the other inside the glass wine room. The stone bar, which is porous, takes up a good portion of the front facing glass panel. Had the bar simply extended into the wine cellar and been sealed off at the joints, the stone would have eventually transferred in enough heat and moisture to cause condensation. Proper wine cellar design and planning enabled this wine cellar to not only look fantastic, but function perfectly as well. One interesting unique feature in this Corona Del Mar, Newport Beach, Orange County, California glass and metal wine cellar is an extension of floor to ceiling frames mounted to the backside of the stone bar. This feature was made to seamlessly show consistency in floor to ceiling vintageview frames throughout. On the right side of this wall lies a vertical space for single large format case storage. This project included more than 200 square feet of concrete countertop, corbels, a footrest and a dual basin concrete sink. The pieces were all cast in black concrete with an egg and dart edge. Small decorative stones and large geodes were used as an aggregate adding many bright colors to the space in the daylight. At night the project comes to life with fiberoptics backlighting all of the translucent stones that were cast into the piece. The project brought with it many challenges, such as determining the best way to transfer light from the cable to the stones, the overall size of the pieces and the shapes created by the existing structure. The completed project really shines and has been the WOW factor for the homeowner and his many guests.

AM2245 ROCK DROP LIGHT DESCRIPTION: The light installation is a chandelier with deliciously unique lights that celebrate the fascinating nature of the rock, where no rock is the same as the next. When you see a light sculpture designed to increase the visual appeal of a room and define its luminous character, you stop on your way to admire it. The word "crystal" comes from Ancient Greek and it means ice which is, similar to real crystal, characterized by purity, clarity, and coolness. Greeks were always surprised when ordinary water turned into "rock". But they soon discovered that something resembling ice can be found deep in the mountains – they found colorless, pure, transparent, and cold mono-crystals of silicon dioxide.
