This tremendous Gourmet Chef's kitchen had two separte work areas on either side of the commercial Garland stove with two ovens and a griddle on the side. There were two sinks, two dishwashers, and two trash recepticles. The cabinets were that 90's light maple color and the floor ceramic tile over radient heat. There were also three Home Depot pendant lights over the counter; so it was time for this upgrade. We had the cabinets sprayed Benjamin Moore White Dove, Engineered wood floors installed (the only type one could use over the radient heat floor system; and we replaced the pendants with three from Restoration Hardware. The walls were painted Benjamin Moore Grey Owl.

I am so excited to finally share my Spring 2018 One Room Challenge! For those of you who don't know me, I'm Natasha Habermann. I am a full-time interior designer and blogger living in North Salem, NY. Last Fall, I participated as a guest in the Fall 2017 ORC and was selected by Sophie Dow, editor in chief of House Beautiful to participate as a featured designer in the Spring 2018 ORC. I've religiously followed the ORC for years, so being selected as a featured designer was a tremendous honor.

The coziest of cabins received a much needed kitchen remodel. Reworking the layout just a little bit opened up the space tremendously! New perimeter cabinets in an off white help brighten the space, while a homeowner heirloom was refurbished into a large, functional island with a new butcher block top.

This was a difficult remodel. After this room was demo'd down to the studs we found a tremendous amount of the previous homeowners mistakes including out of level floors, bad framing/electrical and bad plumbing just to name a few. Working closely with the homeowner we were able to correct the issues and design a bathroom that not only looks great but will last a lifetime!

Fantastic wallbed home office space. The light canopy washes warm light down the bedface making the wood come to life. Made of maple with a warm chocolate finish. Tremendous storage. What a wonderful multi-functional space.

This 37th Floor Penthouse features a full surround system with flush mount speakers above the backlit cabinet. Speakers are angled down to provide accuracy and realism. Two subwoofers flank the fireplace. Stunning views of the Century City twin towers are to the right. Four surround speakers ( in wall) provide an immersive feel,while the subs add tremendous warmth. Control 4 is the control system used to active music,TV and movies, lights , shades and climate.

This Houston bathroom remodel is timeless, yet on-trend - with creative tile patterns, polished chrome and a black-and-white palette lending plenty of glamour and visual drama. "We incorporated many of the latest bathroom design trends - like the metallic finish on the claw feet of the tub; crisp, bright whites and the oversized tiles on the shower wall," says Outdoor Homescapes' interior project designer, Lisha Maxey. "But the overall look is classic and elegant and will hold up well for years to come." As you can see from the "before" pictures, this 300-square foot, long, narrow space has come a long way from its outdated, wallpaper-bordered beginnings. "The client - a Houston woman who works as a physician's assistant - had absolutely no idea what to do with her bathroom - she just knew she wanted it updated," says Outdoor Homescapes of Houston owner Wayne Franks. "Lisha did a tremendous job helping this woman find her own personal style while keeping the project enjoyable and organized." Let's start the tour with the new, updated floors. Black-and-white Carrara marble mosaic tile has replaced the old 8-inch tiles. (All the tile, by the way, came from Floor & Décor. So did the granite countertop.) The walls, meanwhile, have gone from ho-hum beige to Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams. (The trim is Reflective White, also by Sherwin Williams.) Polished "Absolute Black" granite now gleams where the pink-and-gray marble countertops used to be; white vessel bowls have replaced the black undermount black sinks and the cabinets got an update with glass-and-chrome knobs and pulls (note the matching towel bars): The outdated black tub also had to go. In its place we put a doorless shower. Across from the shower sits a claw foot tub - a 66' inch Sanford cast iron model in black, with polished chrome Imperial feet. "The waincoting behind it and chandelier above it," notes Maxey, "adds an upscale, finished look and defines the tub area as a separate space." The shower wall features 6 x 18-inch tiles in a brick pattern - "White Ice" porcelain tile on top, "Absolute Black" granite on the bottom. A beautiful tile mosaic border - Bianco Carrara basketweave marble - serves as an accent ribbon between the two. Covering the shower floor - a classic white porcelain hexagon tile. Mounted above - a polished chrome European rainshower head. "As always, the client was able to look at - and make changes to - 3D renderings showing how the bathroom would look from every angle when done," says Franks. "Having that kind of control over the details has been crucial to our client satisfaction," says Franks. "And it's definitely paid off for us, in all our great reviews on Houzz and in our Best of Houzz awards for customer service." And now on to final details! Accents and décor from Restoration Hardware definitely put Maxey's designer touch on the space - the iron-and-wood French chandelier, polished chrome vanity lights and swivel mirrors definitely knocked this bathroom remodel out of the park!

This project is a perfect example of space transformation. The existing kitchen was original to the 1970's house. The ceiling were low, separation walls between the kitchen and nook created a small and dark space. New design and layout opened up the kitchen tremendously. The raised ceilings allowed for taller upper cabinets and new lighting layout. Light grey cabinets with shaker doors create a fresh, transitional look. The dark granite countertops highlight the width and length of the working surface. The multi-colored glass backsplash tile adds a touch of interest to the subtle finishes around it. This dark and dated 1980’s kitchen and family room area was completely transformed into a large open space. The homeowners had a lot of great ideas and we worked together as a team to completely reimagine the entire layout. Previously closed off, the kitchen is now open to the family room making it a great space for family and entertaining A massive engineered beam was installed between the kitchen and family room allowing the wall separating the kitchen and family room to be removed and allowing more natural light into the space. The laundry room located off the kitchen was relocated so that area can function as a smaller kitchen that houses a second dishwasher, small appliances, a walk-in pantry and tons of storage. We also added an exterior door so the homeowners could have easy access to their herb garden. Twin doors to this small kitchen allow this area to be easily closed off if needed. Dated built-ins were removed on either side of the fireplace and the walls were framed out on either side to bring the walls forward and to allow that cabinet space to be used in the newly relocated laundry room. Venetian plaster was used to finish the fireplace giving it a clean modern look. Wide 5 inch plank white oak floors were installed throughout which help tremendously with lightening up the entire area. The bar was updated to match the kitchen and the stained shiplap wall adds warmth and interest behind the new white cabinets. Mixing metals with brass hardware and light fixtures and beautifully stainless appliances creates a timeless look.

While creating their new home, our clients asked us to create an independant living area for their daughter that would be wheelchair accessible, while not looking like it came from an ADA guidebook. We first created a small kitchenette with all major components within easy reach, then a small but wide open laundry area. Finally we developed this tremendous craft and entertainment area for our incredible young lady to share her hobbies and passions with her visitors. The navy blue cabinets really add a punch of color to the rustic oak cabinets, while in the kitchen, the aluminum doors up top bring in a sense of modern. The centerpiece of the craft room is the Richelieu party table that unfolds out to almost 6 feet in length, or can be completely stowed away in the drawer space of the cabinet. We were thrilled to be able to create such a beautiful space for a beautiful lady!

Check out this slick kitchen from our friends at Waldron Construction Custom Builders featuring GE and Zephyr appliances. This kitchen is a great real-life example of GE’s exclusive slate finish. The folks at Waldron Construction did a tremendous job integrating the slate finish with the dark cabinets and offsetting both with the lighter and warmer tones of the backsplash, countertops and flooring. An interesting design element in this kitchen is the hood. It’s the only appliance in the kitchen that is not in slate finish as slate is an exclusive GE finish and the homeowner wanted a more powerful ventilation system than GE offers. Despite the different finish, the stainless steel hood plays nicely with the other slate appliances in the kitchen thanks to the stainless steel accents on the appliances and similar finishes on the cabinet hardware and faucet.

The "Illusionist" kitchen is a 2nd place winner in the prestigious Subzero and Wolf kitchen design contest in the state of Ohio. This tremendous house, which is situated on the lake, boasts a main kitchen and a prep kitchen. Its name was generated from the complete invisibility of the main kitchen's working components, whereas all of the appliances were completely concealed to provide a seamless look allowing for an unconventional look that is streamlined yet completely functional. The goal of the homeowners in the design stages were to simplify a more conventional house layout. A more predictable formal dining room was eliminated creating a merge of the main kitchen with a central eating area. The combining of these two spaces helped to develop the concept that the kitchen was an 'illusion'; accessible when necessary but unnoticed in every other way so there was less of a feel of being in a kitchen and more of a sense of being in a gathering area for family and friends to enjoy. The main kitchen boasts three ovens, a 36" Subzero refrigerator and a 36" Subzero freezer, all of which are paneled with white glass, providing a perfect reflective surface for the lake in the backdrop. The island is dual purposed, housing a sink and a 36" induction Wolf cooktop on one side and providing seating for 10 in a custom built banquette. The light fixture above the custom glass and stainless steel table is the "Etoile" from Terzanni while the massive light fixture over the island is the "Sospesa" from Fabbian and boasts a 2" sheet of glass with inset halogen lighting that is nearly invisible suspended from the 10' ceiling that features a drop ceiling with cove lighting. The prep kitchen, which was the 'workhorse' for everyday use is also a fully functional space, featuring additional 36" Subzero refrigerator and freezer, a 36" oven, microwave, two prep sinks (one in the island and one to the left of the freezer) and a concealed barstool which pulls out from the island and 'disappears' when not in use. A built-in dog feeding station allows for conveniences for all family members of this modern household.

Pionarch, LLC had designed a new house in Ipswich, Ma on a beautiful lot that has tremendous views overlooking the ocean. This new 2,400 square foot house is equipped with 3 Bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, an office, a personal library, kitchen, dining room, living room, a 2 car garage, 2 decks and all the storage that the client had asked for. The first floor open concept design contains the kitchen, dining room, sun room, living room, library, powder room, master bedroom with ensuite and walk-in closet. The second floor has a walkway looking towards the living room below it, 2 bedrooms, an office and another centrally located bathroom along with the clients much needed storage. This house maximizes the natural light that the property is exposed to with over 30 windows and 2 skylights, this design was to generate the views that the property has to offer as well as eliminating the need to switch on the lights during the day. Pionarch, LLC carefully worked with the clients’ needs to make sure that everything they wanted in their dream home would fit into the budget that was presented.

Ronald did a tremendous job creating something out of almost nothing. By adding some concrete to his driveway he was able to turn his driveway into a great area to play some two on two games. This is a Pro Dunk Gold Basketball System that was purchased in February of 2012. It was installed on a 27 ft wide by a 30 ft deep playing area in Snellville, GA.
