Unfolding in a fluid series of experiences, this large garden in Pasadena blends modern and mediterranean styles. The front garden features a modern flagstone walk and plantings in shades of greens and blue-grey. In the center of the property, a flagstone courtyard rings a large Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), and a new ipe walkway provides a stylish entrance to the back garden's steep upper slope while helping to prevent erosion. In the back of the property, rolling gardens of colorful succulents, shrubs and grasses lead to a meadow of Berkeley Sedge (Carex tumicola) with shimmering olive trees. A large ipe deck, with cut-outs for a mature eucalyptus, beckons at the bottom of the garden.

Framed by mature trees and nestled within Sarasota’s historic McClellan Park, Sunset Place is a home shaped by a deep understanding of, and sensibility for, its setting—reflecting the charm of the neighborhood, the rhythm of downtown living, and the client’s vision of entertaining, connection, and family life. Every decision—from site strategy to spatial flow—was made with intention: to support a lifestyle centered on warmth, community, and a strong sense of place.
At its core, the project is a masterclass in leveraging zoning and code to unlock the full potential of a complex site. Though landlocked, the home lives like waterfront—offering openness, privacy, and expansive sunset views. Placing the pool in the front yard, within the 25-foot setback, redefines the entry experience. It captures the western light and sets a relaxed, resort-like tone from the very first step inside the gate. Paired with a rear-loaded garage, accessed discreetly via the side setback, the layout transforms the site’s limitations into its greatest assets. Architecture and landscape take center stage, while the full buildable envelope is maximized without compromise.
A natural rise of eight feet from front to back—rare in Sarasota—was embraced as an opportunity. Site walls function as both retaining structures and architectural elements, elevating the pool terrace and entry by over four feet to align with the main interior floor level. The result is a fluid connection between indoors and out: kitchen, dining, and living spaces unfold onto the terrace, blurring boundaries and enhancing everyday rituals as well as social gatherings.
Architecturally, the home is coastal contemporary: open yet composed, airy yet grounded. Clarity in the massing tells a story of the inhabitants from the first glance, while the interior planning offers spatial generosity and ease. The interiors echo this sensibility with a palette that is soft, natural, and tactile—serene without being neutral. The landscape design provides a lush tropical frame, softening edges and reinforcing privacy through layered plantings rather than enclosure.
Ultimately, Sunset Place is not defined by any single gesture, but by the way the home reflects its owners. Their gracious, family-centered nature informed every layer of design—resulting in a space that feels deeply personal, tailored for connection and ease, and perfectly suited for gathering, unwinding, and watching the sun slip behind the trees from the comfort of home.

On a sloping 13,700 square foot lot, the design intent of this project was to craft a village of stone masses behind a quiet, landscaped wall. From the curb, the facade feels both understated and timeless - a rooted monument from a time long gone. Yet its essence is communal. Inspired by mediterranean medinas, it is an experience that feels solitary and shared, a retreat and a relic.
Behind the front door, a sprawling sanctuary unfolds organized around large outdoor living spaces. Its eroded beauty invites visitors to become immersed in the lush landscaping and serene stone corridors. Leveraging a minimal material palette, the home creates its own transformative context with a deeply rooted connection to nature.

Perched on a hilltop, the property’s rolling grounds unfold from the rear terrace down to the pool and rippling water’s edge.
Through the ivy-covered front door awaits the paneled grand entry with its soaring three-story carved wooden staircase. The adjacent double living room is bookended by stately fireplaces and flooded with light thanks to the span of windows and French doors out to the terrace and water beyond. Most rooms throughout the home boast water views, including the Great Room, which is cloaked in tiger oak and capped with hexagonal patterned high ceilings.

The aqua mercury glass lamp, rattan and wood lanterns, mosaic tray, and shell inspired bowl are the decor that help bring in that coastal chic vibe. Embroidered linen drapes and the braided rug add warmth.
My client requested a serene, cozy, and beachy hone office where she could feel comfortable and inspired when working from home. Cool and coastal colors of sea glass, blue, aqua, sand, and ivory unfold a serene yet interesting space. With painted wood and rattan furniture, the feeling is that you are in a tropical retreat. We created spaces for working at a desk with practicalities like a filing cabinet, yet also a place to lounge while reading, conversing, and even working on the lap top. This small guest room became an inspiring place for my client to be productive and do her thing in style!

Brunswick Parlour transforms a Victorian cottage into a hard-working, personalised home for a family of four.
Our clients loved the character of their Brunswick terrace home, but not its inefficient floor plan and poor year-round thermal control. They didn't need more space, they just needed their space to work harder.
The front bedrooms remain largely untouched, retaining their Victorian features and only introducing new cabinetry. Meanwhile, the main bedroom’s previously pokey en suite and wardrobe have been expanded, adorned with custom cabinetry and illuminated via a generous skylight.
At the rear of the house, we reimagined the floor plan to establish shared spaces suited to the family’s lifestyle. Flanked by the dining and living rooms, the kitchen has been reoriented into a more efficient layout and features custom cabinetry that uses every available inch. In the dining room, the Swiss Army Knife of utility cabinets unfolds to reveal a laundry, more custom cabinetry, and a craft station with a retractable desk. Beautiful materiality throughout infuses the home with warmth and personality, featuring Blackbutt timber flooring and cabinetry, and selective pops of green and pink tones.
The house now works hard in a thermal sense too. Insulation and glazing were updated to best practice standard, and we’ve introduced several temperature control tools. Hydronic heating installed throughout the house is complemented by an evaporative cooling system and operable skylight.
The result is a lush, tactile home that increases the effectiveness of every existing inch to enhance daily life for our clients, proving that good design doesn’t need to add space to add value.

SITE
The house is located in Seawatch, a residential development in Seagrove Beach, FL. It is a long and narrow beachfront lot on the Gulf of Mexico, A 30' high sandy cliff meets with the Gulf shore on the lot’s southern edge. A thick layer of sea grasses protects the dunes that create this cliff, helping to prevent erosion and provide a green platform upon which the house sits.
PROJECT
Two distinct spaces orchestrate the layout of this house. An insular protected courtyard occupies the center of the composition. In contrast, the beach face is comprised of a Living Area, Master Bedroom and Roof Terrace that unfold to the Gulf.
The first floor is accessed by a loggia that runs along side the Courtyard. Two guest bedrooms on the south and east, the Garage to the north and a garden wall to the west line the Courtyard. Entry to the main house is by way of a tight enclosed Entry Hall that opens to the curved wall, which addresses the Gulf. Tall slender slots of glass puncture the massive concrete wall of the Living Area.
The second floor consists of the Master Bedroom and Study. The massive south wall in the bedroom is articulated as a long horizontal slot, contrasting the vertical windows below. A two-level roof terrace, partly in shade, partly in the sun tops the house. It is here on the Roof Terrace that the two worlds of the enclosed Courtyard and the expansive horizon of the Gulf are experienced.

At 19 Irving Avenue, the backyard and pool come together as a seamless extension of Joseph Eichler’s vision—where architecture and landscape are not separate elements, but part of a single, cohesive experience.
5
Stepping outside, the space unfolds with a sense of quiet intention. The backyard is not overly ornamental or dense—it’s restrained, allowing the architecture to take the lead. Clean lines and open areas create a natural flow, guiding your eye toward the pool, which sits as a sculptural centerpiece within the composition.
The pool itself, with its distinctive geometric form, mirrors the home’s angular language. It doesn’t compete with the architecture—it completes it. Reflections ripple across its surface, capturing the lines of the home and the movement of light throughout the day, creating a constantly shifting interplay between structure and nature.
What makes this space truly special is how it connects back to the interior. Walls of glass dissolve the boundary entirely, so whether you’re inside looking out or outside looking in, the experience feels unified. The backyard becomes an outdoor living room—an extension of daily life rather than a separate destination.
There’s a calmness to it all. A sense that nothing is overdone, yet everything is exactly where it should be. In this space, Eichler wasn’t just designing a backyard—he was refining an idea that would define his legacy: that modern living could be open, fluid, and deeply connected to the natural environment.

Nestled within the bustling heart of Manhattan's Seaport District, my latest project unfolded in the form of a kid's bedroom, reflecting both a playful spirit and thoughtful practicality. The client's love for travel and a shared vision for a space that grows with their child guided the creative process, transforming the room into a haven of warmth, comfort, and character.
The journey began with the selection of a twin-size daybed in off-white, a transitional piece that resonates with the room's flexibility. Perfect for lounging or sleepovers, this piece stands ready to evolve into a bed when the time is right. The side table, equipped with a handy charging port, offers the dual function of storage now and a nightstand later, reflecting the room's readiness to adapt to its occupant's changing needs.
Adding to the room's multifunctionality, the chosen console table can either grace the space in simplicity or rotate into an L-shaped desk. From craft time to study hours, it's a piece that speaks to the creativity and growth of the child. Paired with a velvet-upholstered chair, a fashionable yet unobtrusive addition, it brings a contrasting pop of color to balance the room's light palette.
The leather lounge chair and globe pouf introduce a casual feel, enhancing the room's welcoming ambiance. Inspired by the family's months-long travel experience, the global-themed pouf stands as a tangible reminder of adventures shared and the world waiting to be explored.
With the final touch of a well-positioned bookcase at the foot of the daybed sofa, organization and accessibility became part of the room's charm. The careful addition of lighting with gold, white, and rattan elements, along with a uniquely textured blue rug, brings the design together in a harmonious blend of style and personality.
This project, situated in one of New York's most vibrant neighborhoods, was more than just a room transformation; it was a labor of love. Building a space that can effortlessly transition with the child's growth, filled with memories and inspiration from family experiences, was a challenge embraced with enthusiasm. Their child's bedroom is not merely a room; it's a carefully curated environment where dreams take flight, comfort reigns, and the future holds endless possibilities.

Location: Cohasset, MA, US These clients wanted a landscape that had a sense of flow, of unfolding, of mysteries revealed. They love art and were open to ideas beyond the traditional themes, and so the swirls and circles of artist Sonia Delaunay, became the inspiration for this gorgeous coastal property in Cohasset, MA. Along the entire length of the house we made a sweeping serpentine stone wall that swerves around like a great dragon tail. In front of it are deep beds filled with Euphorbia, Lavender, Geranium, Coreopsis, Salvia, and Hakonechloa grass. They sing with blues, purples and yellows, the homeowners’ favorite colors.

Ready for life to unfold! This busy family uses the entire main floor. Having good sitelines to the living spaces from the kitchen was important. We created a better flow for working in the kitchen, and for using the rest of the great room. We relocated the backyard access with double sliding doors to be out of the way of the main thoroughfare.
