The large granite island countertop creates a dedicated space for food preparation as well as for baking. Custom pull-out drawers were incorporated into the island as a place for laptop storage. A unique backsplash above the range was designed with 3” x 6” field tile, outlined by a liner bar, to draw the eyes attention to the custom Grabill hood.

There is no shortage of large windows and bright light in this happy home. Two-story painted millwork detailing and arched openings create the visual of a big-beautiful space. Fill the entire sink with ice (or use the in sink divider) for use as an ice buffet to serve drinks, chilled food and condiments. What is an ADU: Accessory Dwelling Units: An accessory dwelling unit, usually just called an ADU, is a secondary housing unit on a single-family residential lot. The term “accessory dwelling unit” is a institutional-sounding name, but it’s the most commonly-used term across the country to describe this type of housing. While the full name is a mouthful, the shorthand “ADU” is better. ADUs vary in their physical form quite a bit, as there are detached ADU, attached ADU, second story ADU (above garage or work shop), addition ADU, internal ADU. The island is a dark charcoal with cool undertones that coordinates with the cabinetry and transom work in both the neighboring mudroom and breakfast area. White subway tile, quartz countertops, white enamel pendants and gold fixtures complete the update. The ends of the island are shiplap material that is also used on the fireplace in the next room. In the new mudroom, we used a fun porcelain tile on the floor to get a pop of pattern, and walnut accents add some warmth. Each child has their own cubby, and there is a spot for shoes below a long bench. Open shelving with spots for baskets provides additional storage for the room. Craft room - mid-sized contemporary built-in desk medium tone wood floor craft room idea in Nashville with yellow walls and no fireplace

This 1990's home, located in North Vancouver's Lynn Valley neighbourhood, had high ceilings and a great open plan layout but the decor was straight out of the 90's complete with sponge painted walls in dark earth tones. The owners, a young professional couple, enlisted our help to take it from dated and dreary to modern and bright. We started by removing details like chair rails and crown mouldings, that did not suit the modern architectural lines of the home. We replaced the heavily worn wood floors with a new high end, light coloured, wood-look laminate that will withstand the wear and tear from their two energetic golden retrievers. Since the main living space is completely open plan it was important that we work with simple consistent finishes for a clean modern look. The all white kitchen features flat doors with minimal hardware and a solid surface marble-look countertop and backsplash. We modernized all of the lighting and updated the bathrooms and master bedroom as well. The only departure from our clean modern scheme is found in the dressing room where the client was looking for a more dressed up feminine feel but we kept a thread of grey consistent even in this more vivid colour scheme. This transformation, featuring the clients' gorgeous original artwork and new custom designed furnishings is admittedly one of our favourite projects to date!

design: Studio TOOP, 2010 location: Amsterdam Zuid, NL status: built in 2010, The Greenman Hoveniers photos: Jolanthe Lalkens, 2011 A garden in Amsterdam Zuid for a busy family with young children. The garden needs to offer lots of space for the kids to play and the parents to relax. The perfect place to catch the last bit of sun after work. A nonchalant, natural feeling atmosphere. Lots of green (and purple). The use of the diagonal line along the house allows for a small path near the kitchen and a more generous patio area on the other side of the garden. The same stone, now as a flagstone is used a more irregular path in the lower lying section of the garden and again as the walls of the beds for the shade planting.
