Milgard Ultra™ Series fiberglass French doors provide an elegant look to this contemporary den. The sidelight accompanying the in-swing door lets even more natural light come into the room. The horizontal grids in the glass provide an extra design element to both the interior and exterior without compromising the view to the outdoors.

This top-down view of the rustic fire pit showcases the natural beauty and organic tones of the flagstone hardscape. Alterra’s design+build team selected natural stone with varied earth tones to provide a durable and aesthetically rich floor for the social zone. The weathered steel fire vessel adds an industrial-chic touch that complements the home’s transitional style. It’s a perfect illustration of how our landscape architecture focuses on creating intimate hubs that encourage a lifestyle of relaxed, year-round outdoor living.

A bird’s-eye view highlights the intricate hardscape transitions and material variety of this project. Our Explore+Design+Build process focused on creating "rooms" within the front yard, including a cozy decomposed granite seating area with a custom fire feature. The use of board-formed concrete walls and steel edging provides structural permanence and architectural rhythm. This design illustrates how professional landscape architecture can transform a standard lawn into a multi-dimensional work of art that offers both beauty and functionality.

Anchored by the homeowner’s 42-foot-long painting, the interiors of this Palm Springs residence were designed to showcase the owner’s art collection, and create functional spaces for daily living that can be easily adapted for large social gatherings.
Referencing the environment and architecture in both form and material, the finishes and custom furnishings bring the interior to life. Alluding to the roofs that suspend over the building, the sofas seem to hover above the carpets while the knife-edge table top appears to float above a metal base. Bleached and cerused wood mimic the “desert effect” that would naturally occur in this environment, while the textiles on the sofa are the same shade as the rocks of the landscape.
Monolithic concrete floors connect all of the spaces while concealing mechanical systems, and stone thresholds signal vertical level changes and exterior transitions. Large wall masses provide the optimal backdrop for the homeowner’s oversized art. The wall structures ground the interior, while the opposing expanses of glass frame the desert views. The location and use of operable doors and windows allows the house to naturally ventilate, reducing cooling loads. The furnishings create spaces in an architectural fashion.
Designed and fabricated for flexibility, the pieces easily accommodate the owners’ large social gatherings. The dining table can be split into two and the sofas can be pushed out along the walls, opening the center of the space to entertain. The design of the interior spaces and furnishings seamlessly integrates the setting, architecture, artwork and spaces into a cohesive whole.

A panoramic view of the primary social hub featuring a massive waterfall-edge island. The design highlights the seamless integration of natural stone surfaces with wide-plank white oak flooring. The removal of structural walls has created a direct sightline into the family room, emphasizing the scale of the dual-island layout.

Phil Rudick, Architect of Urban Kitchens + Baths, Austin, Texas. The kitchen for this new home is the centerpiece for family activity. With two islands, there is plenty of room for meal preparation, family and social activities. Both islands have a view of the Great Room and hill country vistas. The range and custom hood offer an additional focal point punctuated with a decorative tile splash. This is truly a modern family country Kitchen

The southern facade faces an extensive lawn sloping to the golf course and views of wooded piedmont hills beyond. Hillside nestles into the natural contours of the site stepping down from the living areas with "trays" comprised of the lounging deck, social patio, lap pool then lawn.
Extensive eaves provide passive solar shading of living area and bedroom south-facing, view-oriented glazing. Rain chains direct roof runoff to stone filled collectors and an underground site drainage system. No gutters on this house!

This Project consisted of a Pondless Waterfall Memorial installation in Hummlestown, PA at the Allegheny Valley School. The Pondless Waterfall has dueling streams measuring approximately 25′ in length disappearing into a 400 gallon pondless underground basin. We installed LED lighting in the water feature and under water falls for night time viewing. This Pondless waterfall was built as a memorial to Jilly a resident at the school who passed away.
The Allegheny Valley School provides residential, therapeutic, educational, vocational and social programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They provide care to people from childhood through adulthood. An individualized plan of care is designed for each person with the goal of achieving the highest level of independence while enhancing his/her quality of life.

A soft gray on the walls in a custom-mixed color highlighted with oyster metallic paint in the recessed ceilings are the perfect backdrop for some bright accent colors. The cool and subdued teal of the chair cushions and the drapes along with the glass lamp bases is the primary accent color.

An energetic climber, nutritionist, pathologist, doctor and full time awesome human approached us for her third project under the Imbue label. We were beside ourselves and ready for the task of creating her permanent retreat.
Being a professional busybody, the focus of the project was to disconnect, relax and recover. The home's soft corners immediately draw you into the womb of the dwelling; a sunken social room with a mind expanding canyon view.
The secondary function of the refuge was to house dear friends and acquaintances of the vertical realm. The home is a great example of altruistic architecture. Take time to study the plan and understand why a couch surfer may never want to leave.
Please come in, sit back and unwind.

What began as a renovation project morphed into a new house, driven by the natural beauty of the site.
The new structures are perfectly aligned with the coastline, and take full advantage of the views of ocean, islands, and shoals. The location is within walking distance of town and its amenities, yet miles away in the privacy it affords. The house is nestled on a nicely wooded lot, giving the residence screening from the street, with an open meadow leading to the ocean on the rear of the lot.
The design concept was driven by the serenity of the site, enhanced by textures of trees, plantings, sand and shoreline. The newly constructed house sits quietly in a location advantageously positioned to take full advantage of natural light and solar orientations. The visual calm is enhanced by the natural material: stone, wood, and metal throughout the home.
The main structures are comprised of traditional New England forms, with modern connectors serving to unify the structures. Each building is equally suited for single floor living, if that future needs is ever necessary. Unique too is an underground connection between main house and an outbuilding.
With their flowing connections, no room is isolated or ignored; instead each reflects a different level of privacy and social interaction.
Just as there are layers to the exterior in beach, field, forest and oceans, the inside has a layered approach. Textures in wood, stone, and neutral colors combine with the warmth of linens, wools, and metals. Personality and character of the interiors and its furnishings are tailored to the client’s lifestyle. Rooms are arranged and organized in an intersection of public and private spaces. The quiet palette within reflects the nature outside, enhanced with artwork and accessories.

Braheem Residence architectural design has the pool located in the lower level of the house. This not only allows for the house to settle in the terrain but also enables the main social areas, that are higher, to have an unobstructed view towards the golf course and the surrounding nature.

The Lakota Residence occupies a spectacular 10-acre site in the hills above northwest Portland, Oregon. The residence consists of a main house of nearly 10,000 sf and a caretakers cottage/guest house of 1,200 sf over a shop/garage. Both have been sited to capture the four mountain Cascade panorama plus views to the city and the Columbia River gorge while maintaining an internal privacy. The buildings are set in a highly manicured and refined immediate site set within a largely forested environment complete with a variety of wildlife.
Successful business people, the owners desired an elegant but "edgey" retreat that would accommodate an active social life while still functional as "mission control" for their construction materials business. There are days at a time when business is conducted from Lakota. The three-level main house has been benched into an edge of the site. Entry to the middle or main floor occurs from the south with the entry framing distant views to Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. Conceived as a ruin upon which a modernist house has been built, the radiused and largely opaque stone wall anchors a transparent steel and glass north elevation that consumes the view. Recreational spaces and garage occupy the lower floor while the upper houses sleeping areas at the west end and office functions to the east.
Obsessive with their concern for detail, the owners were involved daily on site during the construction process. Much of the interiors were sketched on site and mocked up at full scale to test formal concepts. Eight years from site selection to move in, the Lakota Residence is a project of the old school process.
