I own a Sears Kit Home, built by my grandfather in the 1920’s. It needed repairs, updates and a general spiffing up. I wanted to keep the home true to its original form as much as possible. Also, I wanted someone who appreciates and respects older construction and materials to do the work. After interviewing several remodeling/renovation companies, some who insisted on tearing out walls, John McCloskey walked in and smiled at the craftsmanship and understood my house. He saw the foibles found in old homes, like the sloped flooring. And came up with a quick and easy fix. Jessica did a fantastic job walking me through the process, selecting fixtures, coordinating contractors, and keeping me updated on the project. I live elsewhere and she accommodated my schedule when I came into town to see the progress. The crew were respectful of my home and property and were polite and patient with all my questions. I can honestly say, I was very pleased with the JFrancis team from start to finish. I think my six-year-old granddaughter summed it up perfectly, “This house feels the best of all the houses I know. I am going to live here someday.”

I have been working with J Francis Company and am in the final planning phase of a complete renovation of my kitchen, laundry, and primary bath and closet. What has impressed me most about the J Francis professionals is the high level of detailed communication. We have had weekly in-person or virtual meetings, which are always followed up with written meeting notes to confirm our decisions and correct anything if needed. This keeps the project moving forward. They are resourceful in providing great options for finishes for me to choose from and have quickly learned my style and vision for my home. The team was respectful of my family’s needs, budget and time. J Francis is efficient, timely, and has a clear vision for how they work with a client. They are professional and did not leave a single detail unaddressed. They take pride in their work. I have an older home in Squirrel Hill and interviewed 5 different renovation teams for my project (complete renovation of a 3rd floor and a 2nd floor bathroom). As a former field staff employee, I was to work on high-end builds with a cohesive operations and design staff. As an employee, one can work with a highly competent build team that encourages camaraderie and will grow your skills as a craftsman. There is a good work/life balance and the management team cares about their employees!

If you are interested in a home renovation, look no further than J Francis Company. We just completed our whole home gut renovation and the results are outstanding. Our home was 100 years old and needed major updates including entire home rewiring, structural beams and supports in the basement, new roof, all new flooring, gut renovation of kitchen, 2.5 bathrooms and laundry room. The quality of the work completed by the designer, project manager, carpenters and subcontractors is the best in the area. When we started searching for our contractor we knew we wanted a design/build company and one with extensive experience renovating old homes. These projects require experience, craftsmanship, and planning to make sure the project stays on budget and with the least amount of surprises you can hope for. J Francis was the first on our list to interview about seven design/build firms in the city. After interviewing the prospective candidates for the job, we knew we wanted J Francis and never looked back. We will only work with them in the future. Every time we would talk to someone about our experience, we had only positive things to say, which is very difficult to say nowadays. Over the past year and a half, the communication with the team has been incredible. The overall time frame was spot on. We were never in the dark or didn't know what the next step was or how long it would take. This is as professional a company as you can get. We truly believe you get what you pay for. All home renovations are expensive, even more so post-pandemic. Yes they are expensive, but of all the design/build firms in the area, they were all within ~5% of each other for prospective cost. You will save money, time and effort working with J Francis from the get go.

At a time when you hear horror stories about workers or companies promising work but not showing up, we are pleased to share that was not our experience with J Francis. We had a complete gut of our main floor kitchen and powder room. The designer proposed a great solution to reposition our powder room and give us a closet at our back door, took feedback and suggestions on a kitchen layout, and narrowed down finishing selections to avoid feeling overwhelmed by choices. The lead contractor was beyond outstanding and even helped trouble shoot an unexpected basement issue that added to the scope of work. J Francis is particular about its subcontractors, and if something didn’t go right, they made sure to fix it promptly themselves or have the subcontractor come back. That said, most of them were outstanding especially painting and flooring. We are thrilled with the final product and know the job was done well and with excellent craftmanship. We have received so many compliments.

We would highly recommend J. Francis. We are currently in progress with them on a full basement remodel. We can update when done, but they are taking a huge, largely unfinished space and creating a full guest suite, TV area, wine cellar, bar, and play and storage rooms. We have been very impressed at the organization, attention to detail, and quality work so far. The project was custom designed by Jason, and he is a pleasure to work with. He understood our style and goals right away, but is also patient with changes, questions, and helping us get exactly what we want. His vision and recommendations have been right on point, and he is also incredibly responsive and knowledgeable. We're well into construction now (shoutout to our lead carpenter, John, doing a great job) and the whole thing is moving much more smoothly than anyone would expect for large scale construction. J. Francis has done a great job with orchestrating all of the materials and moving pieces, checking in and providing helpful updates and recommendations, and generally keeping it moving forward. There are always some surprises, but they seem to have planned really well and kept us on time and on budget (other than some change orders we requested). We also appreciated the care they take in our home - they make it as easy as possible to have a months long construction project going. We know we're going to love this space and can see the quality work going into it!

We used J. Francis Company for our basement and office renovation and would highly recommend them for home improvement projects. The whole process was very well managed and organized from the first meeting to the final completion. All the staff were extremely helpful and professional with regular updates throughout the entire project to make the process as stress-free as possible. We would most definitely use J. J Francis is a very professional and well organized company to work with. The quality of the work is top notch, with good communication throughout the process. The day to day builders and contractors were always very nice and accommodating to our family with young children. There were some early challenges with matching budget and scope, with great ideas presented to us that proposed expanding the scope of the project, but went beyond our fixed budget. However - this happened early enough in the process that we were able to adjust our plans accordingly without any surprises. We have not yet completed all of our original remodeling goals, but we are very happy with the work that has been completed (new patio with masonry wall, french drain system and repairs to the house frame). They continue to be attentive to concerns even after the work has been completed and clearly take pride in making sure the job is done to the highest standards.

We used J Francis to remodel our home including projects to redesign our garage, kitchen, master bedroom and our kids play room. J Francis and our Designer Jessie were outstanding to work with. They are VERY responsive, professional and catered to our needs with managing the multiple projects around our lives/kids and in the middle of the pandemic. We really enjoyed working with them and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a design to build professional. Jessie's creativity added value to our home and the projects were finished on time. Their quality of work is top notch with an eye to detail.

J. Francis worked with us to design and build a complete basement remodel, plus two full bathrooms. They were knowledgeable about specific issues with our old home and all requirements that would need to be met to pass inspections. The paid attention to details and let us know immediately about any problems that would cause a change order (like unlevel floors, unique subflooring, plumbing issues, etc.). They're not cheap, and they use a lot of subcontractors to get the work done, but they do their best to find and hire quality people who truly care about the work they're doing. If something isn't perfect (or close to it), they fix it. If you want your project done well and efficiently, then give J. Francis a call!

Everyone at J Francis including the owner, designer, production manager, and lead carpenter was great to work with! We worked with J Francis to relocate our kitchen and add a half bathroom and closet. They were patient with us and willing to work on our timeframe without pressuring us to move forward before we were ready. During the design phase, they thoroughly investigated potential issues before construction began. Our designer provided great insight and recommendations to help us choose materials for our kitchen. The whole team communicated well throughout construction, especially by holding virtual weekly meetings to discuss progress to date and the upcoming schedule. They were willing to work on our house that was built in 1928 involving rerouting utilities and framing to relocate our kitchen. We are very happy with the final product and highly recommend them!

J. Francis did a mudroom addition and deck for us, and the quality of the work and materials was great. The crew was professional and polite, and adapted easily and quickly to some unanticipated site issues discovered and some requested adjustments from us. They also had strong safety measures in place so that the project could be done amidst the Covid pandemic. The project management team was also very communicative, so we knew what had been completed, when issues arose, and what was planned to be done in the coming week. While the overall project cost ended up higher than expected, due in part to additional work we requested along the way, the work quality and the materials are top of the line so are worth the added cost.

J Francis remodeled our basement, including playroom, built-ins, laundry room and a bathroom. We love the results. They were focused on providing top quality work. That said, it was not a cheap job. Overall, we were very pleased with J Francis.

Currently we are in the process of remodeling our basement with J Francis. They have been exceptional. From the design process to now (a little over half way finished) they have been incredibly organized and responsive to all of our needs. They are also incredibly clean. We have bad allergies and they are so clean that we have had no asthma or allergies while they have been working in the basement. The work thus far has been very high quality and we are totally happy with the process. Highly recommend for your home remodel.

J Francis recently completed a total kitchen renovation. From design to demo, installation and project completion, everyone at J Francis was fantastic to work with and the outcome of the project was even better than we imagined. J Francis has been a wonderful company to work with on our first floor remodel. Our designer / project manager has been creative and collaborative. She picked up on our personal style as well as the things we already liked about our home and came up with a selection of designs, cabinetry, colors, tiles, etc. that we found very easy to choose from. The team has kept us up to date on progress and what is coming next. We even got a picture of our cabinets (or at least the boxes that contained our cabinets) after they arrived at the J Francis warehouse.

We did a “long-distance”, full-house remodel with J. Francis on our home while I was working 1,000 miles away. From initial planning through project completion, their staff was continuously in touch with us and kept us completely updated via telcons, Google Hangout sessions, and e-mails. The project started and completed on time. And...the results were incredible! As with any project of this magnitude, there were the inevitable “things” that cropped up. But the staff was always on top of things, and in constant contact with us. We couldn’t be happier with the results, and would recommend them for anyone looking for a professional company who will walk you through the project from start to finish.

Detail & process oriented contractors, providing drawings, broken down estimates, and options. Able to work with challenging constraints and react to in-flight difficulties professionally. On-site crew was respectful, cautious, and professional at all times. This is not a budget or lowest-bid style company. You pay for the time to plan, prepare, and execute the project. For the willing, this is fully worth it as there are fewer surprises and clear expectations of the work.

We were looking for not only a kitchen renovation but also an entire redesign of our first floor living space. J. Francis listened and created different options for us to consider. After deciding on the general design, they walked through each aspect of the renovation with their skilled project managers, lead carpenter, and creative design team. I highly recommend J Francis. J Francis remodeled our kitchen and bathroom and we are very happy with the work performed. One benefit of working with J Francis are the periodic follow-up walk throughs after the completion of the work. John, the owner, personally performs the walk throughs. There were a couple of issues that we pointed out to John at the 6 month walk through and without prompting, he immediately addressed the problems. It's hard to put a price on that level of service. Sometimes you get what you pay for and this is true with J Francis.

Great experience with the professionals at J Francis! We are doing a full-house remodel for our retirement residence. This can be an intimidating experience, but the difference between J Francis and the other firms we interviewed is they took the time to actually listen to what we wanted, and drew up a plan that met our vision. This job started out as a new front porch but grew after finding a roof leak under our back deck. Since replacing the rubber roof under the deck required removing the deck, a new deck was installed. We also had some tiling work done in the bathroom, electrical work, plumbing work, and some concrete repair. The job was somewhat complex in that it required coordination of a number of subcontractors and interfaces between trades. J. Francis kept on the job with almost continuously, and worked with me to resolve the issues that did come up to my satisfaction - there are always somethings that go wrong of a larger job! J Francis did a good job of fixing mistakes and getting things done to my satisfaction.

Andy, George and Rich arrived ever AM way ahead of their 7:30 start time. Not only was their work impeccable but they were friendly and polite. They befriended my Rottweiler, Mae, to the point that she would cry upon hearing their vehicles outside. She ate lunch with them every day and was delighted to steal their rags and small tools. J. Francis completely renovated our kitchen and attached spaces. They were involved from design through completion. Our experience was excellent from start to finish. They proposed an innovative design that gave us everything we wanted and more. The project was completed in the time frame and price range initially agreed upon. The results are amazing. I have used J Francis a number of times because they do extremely high-quality work, have tradesmen (or similarly skilled subs) capable of handling all aspects of the job, and are a good choice for jobs that are more than we could do in-house but that the big construction companies are not interested in doing. They are very flexible in terms of scheduling and if they see a way to improve the original design for functional reasons or even VE purposes, they always bring it to our attention.

We did a complete renovation of our kitchen. We could not have been happier with our experience working with J. From the minute we walked in to their offices for the initial meeting to the end of the project, they made it easy on us. They delivered on their mission statement of first developing trust. Everything else flowed from there. The quality of the people is first rate. Knowledgeable, confident, competent, personable. The quality of the work is first rate. Dave bid the job and worked with us to arrive at the final scope of work and price in a very relaxed way. Melanie and Matt worked with us to design the space. They hit the nail on the head the first time. We gave them an idea on the overall scheme from a magazine picture and they did the rest. Melanie came to the house for hands-on attention with respect to guiding the cabinet and countertop installation and did a lot of behind the scenes work. All the components and supplies arrived exactly on schedule, which tells us that JFCo has great suppliers who respect JFCo. Matt's response time via email or phone call and attention to every detail was amazing. He came over to the house a lot to make sure everything was going according to plan. Plus, every Wednesday he gave us a progress report and a "what you can expect next week" report. When these guys say they're going to do something, they do it. And they do it when they say they're going to do it. The project came in exactly on time. They are sticklers for getting every detail correct. Doug is a tremendous lead carpenter. He knows how to manage his staff. Very easy going and willing to discuss anything anytime. The work space was spotless every single day when Doug and his crew were done. Installed new kitchen cabinets, appliances, lighting and granite counter tops. Installed wainscoting in foyer and upstairs hallway. Everything went well and the results are just beautiful! I couldn't be happier. Melanie is an excellent designer and her input and suggestions were right on the mark. Her professionalism is equal to her friendly personality.
