My knee jerk reaction is no. Ceilings always appear darker than the walls. When we want a harmonious scheme, we will tint the ceiling with 25% of the wall color, never more.

Agree with a lighter shade of color for the ceiling.

I have this throughout my house and love it. Flat on ceiling and same color on walls in eggshell.

I also agree. A lighter shade for the ceiling unless you have a coffered ceiling.

HI -- Yes , I have done what your designer is suggesting and it will look great . Even with the same color , the different surfaces will show as different color tones . Don't start doing self mixes of paint . Hard to match if you need more paint later . It's a more modern way of painting a room.

We did this years ago (unintentionally) in the master bedroom; used eggshell finish on both the walls and cathedral ceiling and switched to a high gloss in the master bathroom. Other than the fact that we were shocked to see we had a peach ceiling (remember that era?), we got used to it. Sorry I don't have any photos... Ellsworth's suggestion is a sound one.

With white ceiling....and then with 50% color. Odd shaped in any event!

We always try to do something more interesting to the ceilings but it always depends on the room. In a powder room, for instance, we like to do the WOW factor and in other areas, we will paint a contrasting color, but in the living quarters of the house, a lighter tone is a very safe way to go...
