Kitchen island light

Should I keep the light over the island or change to something smaller?
Keep the current light over the island?
This light is wrong for this spot and should be changed?

take it out and put in a can light. or a semi flush. this island is too small for that light, and the kitchen is too large for a smaller on to look right......... im not sure you want to draw attention to that island. id rather the cook top be the center piece.

Perhaps attach a photo with the lights on to seemhow it is currently working in the space.

Yes, it is definitely too big for the space. Either take it out and replace with a can light or some small pendants.

I agree with all the other 3 votes. It is a little out of date and should be changed. Since the island is on the smaller side I would recommend pot lighting. If the picture is skewing the size of the island smaller pendent lighting would look nice as well.

Thank you for confirmation on the lighting. We just finished remodeling the kitchen and moved the electric cooktop from the island to the side wall where there was a built in desk and added the hood vent. I didn't think about the light until I finished and couldn't decide whether to go with cans or pendants. I really appreciate your feedback and talents.

Agree that the cook top is a great focal point. Perhaps a semi-flush or a small cluster pendant would add a little interest without overpowering the space.

I'm wondering if it might look much better if just lowered. Would it feel like you'd bump your head on it if it was lower?

im wondering why you didnt change the island in the remodel? it seems out of scale to the oven, perhaps change the counters to match. and paint the base more swiss coffee white.

Thank you all for the feedback. I think the angle of the camera has distorted the island. There is only 36" to 41" from edge of island to other cabinets. Any pictures of suggested lights welcomed.

The current lighting appear too large and too high. I would replace with 2 smaller pendants or something more like Whisper designs suggested, but keep it small.

i think looking again you should paint the base of the island a darker color. and then add one simple glass pendant, or small chandelier, depending on your style. which seems to be traditional. 2 will still be too much. the one on the right picture i posted is made by kichler lighting, and i think it looks just swell :)

If you keep it, it should be lowered.
