Definitely need to paint the walls and remove all the random pictures - it causes confusion and a sense of disorganization. You will be able to use them after you paint the walls, but in a new way. New drapes instead of blinds will also make a big difference. Yes, I definitely agree with kitty73warren - you need off white slipcovers. The color will depend on who you live with. Personally, I prefer the grey, mentioned above, as long as it is not too cool, or a light mauve pink - they will create wonderful canvasses to work with. However, pink doesn't really work for a guy so... Want to see pics when you get it painted and the slipcovers.

I agree you can use pictures in a new way.slipcovers can be washed,so not a problem,sherwin Williams comfort gray is blue based,and beatiful,makes you feel good and updates your wood pieces against this color.

Off white or white is also classic for slipcovers, and definitely goes with both girly and eclectic/shabby chic.

LOOOOVE the pic, Feeny!! Tina, your lack of windows may work against you in creating the look you want, so remember to keep things lighter. Right now, i can see a lot of dark in the room, such as the side tables and various occasional tables. If you don't feel like buying more, painting them is an easy and affordable option that really rewards you well. Also, try to work against a "waiting room" feel when everything is crammed up against the walls. Loosen up the configuration a bit so that the room will not only look better, but feel bigger. Less tables/furniture may also be a card to success.
