what is munching on my crocus leaves?

I had all my happy little crocus leaves popping up out of the ground a couple of days ago and now it looks like some chewing mouth part insect has been munching them. It is not deer because they are in an inclosed garden area. What is active right now...it is still so cold.

Slugs and a few caterpillars. So, try looking for them about 10 or 11 pm -- take a flashlight.

That said, can you post a picture of the damage? It's often easier to suggest a culprit when one sees the damage.

House sparrows who often rip the yellow flowering type to pieces, though why they do it is not known.
