Under cabinet lighting in kitchen

What is the best under counter lighting in the kitchen for task lighting. I've talked to two electricians. Neither recommended LED. One suggested puck lighting and one said florescent. What do you suggest?????

Pretty sure they all come with standard plugs. They are the type that you cut the power cord to your length and add the plug to the end. The challenge maybe getting to an outlet. I found the amount of power wire they include to be more than enough. I did mine several years ago, and yes, there are many new variations now. Frankly, they are years ahead of the US in task lighting. And the cost is, well, almost cheap.

I just have installed LED undercabinet lights in my redesigned kitchen and I L O V E them! what a difference. I was affraid they would look too bluish but not, they are great, I ordered online and are not puck but strip, 12" or 18" long.

I bought my LED under cabinet lights at IKEA. Best deal, anywhere. Great light, too.

It is an Ikea brand. I used the "Dioder" model so I could position them in areas that provided the best overall light. If you don't have an IKEA store close, they can be ordered on line. You can also purchase LED row lights, and other styles.

The LED under cabinet strip lighting is amazing! We just had them installed in 2 recent kitchen renovations. They are less than a 1/8" thick, can be cut in varying lengths and stick on to the under surface of the your cabinets. They give off a great uniformed glow along your
countertops and is great for task lighting. They are available in both cool and warm white so depending on your kitchen finishes there is something for you. Many electricians don't recommend them because they've never installed them...mine didn't! He's now a believer....
One last note: they're great on energy.

Good for Task lighting only though, right? I like to use puck undercab lighting for ambiance mostly, but if I get a warm color LED, would it be ambient lighting or still look like task lighting?

Any under cabinet lighting is considered task lighting in retrospect. With that being said, the LED lights do give off a fair amount of light and could be used as "ambient" lighting, for instance if you didn't want to turn on a ceiling fixture.

I looked up the Ikea lighting and I even see one that can change colors. I read the installation manual and product description. It says 'plug' in but no where in the pictures did I see the plug. Are these, in-fact, able to be plugged in or do they need to be hard wired? I wonder if they don't show the plug due to selling to different countries and each country has their own style plug. I really can't afford to pay my electrician what he quoted for hard wiring. My kitchen is just not worth it.
