Hampton Bay track lighting installation problem

I'm attempting to install some basic linear Hampton Bay track lighting, and I'm having a problem with the design of the end feed. This power feed uses a 3/16" thick plastic and steel plate to cover the ceiling box. The wires are drawn through a hole in the middle of the plate and connected to the live-end power feed which is then fitted to the track. The problem I'm having is that, because the end feed and the end of the track sit on this rather thick plate that covers the box, the track is held away from the ceiling by the thickness of the plate. This makes it impossible to sufficiently tighten the screws that hold the track to the ceiling without deforming the track; the whole arrangement looks (and is) loose and sloppy. I'm hoping someone here will be familiar with the product and either tell me that it's junk and I should return it, or suggest a reasonably graceful way to address the problem. Any thoughts you might have would be appreciated.
