Artistic(ish) Insight?

Here is how I decided to place things in our entry hallway in the new condo. That big ass cabinet on the left was a mis-order meaning they sent me the wrong item (actual one is pictured below) and returning that monument meant repackaging and it was a task far too impossible so with a satisfying discount here it remains.

So I was wanted to paint it and make it look more like the item I had ordered but am too nervous about messing it up and having to live with an even bigger mistake. Could you give advice on what or how to change the look of this cabinet or if I should just leave it be.

I love both cabinets in your entry, but only one is necessary. If we could see the rest of the condo, we might help you make the best use of both of them.

Are you trying to match the cabinet in the corner? I think the color of your piece is pretty, and would probably try to work with it-esp. since it is new. Love your runner-Could you bring some accessories in that accent color to tie everything together? If you do decide to paint, check out Annie Sloan paints. Easy to use and no sanding required.

those colors seem compatible to me, let your accents tie them together... floral arrangements or art.

I agree with decoenthusiast... you probably don't need both cabinets in an entryway - it feels a little much, especially since both pieces are bulky. Are you hoping for a more distressed look on the cabinet? You might try sanding down the paint that's already on there to see if you get your desired look. If you want to change the color, I would repaint with a watered down wash of paint - it won't look so flat that way.

Yes I definitely agree two cabinets especially of these sizes are unnecessary but

Oops was writing at the store and it posted before I finished..

But like I mentioned before, returning one of the items was way too difficult and I'll show you the rest of the condo when I'm back there but there is unfortunately no room anywhere else for any of the cabinets.

I actually have an extra credenza that needs to be gone too as it is taking up way too much space in my living area.

Have you ever sold anything on craigslist? You might be able to offload the offending piece(s) at a decent price and use the money on some brilliant accessories.

I hope this update will reach any of those who commented previously but considering it took me like a month to get back I am thinking I won't be so lucky.

Well that's the basic overall look of my entry way slash kitchen slash living room ha -that's what living in the heart of sf will get you- I really did try to make the best out of a small situation but I have zero talent in home decor and arranging so any kind of advice will be greatly considered and appreciated.

I kept that big cabinet next to the mirrored one because it just didn't look right anywhere else. I do have two bedrooms but gawsh if you saw how small those "bedrooms" are..haha.

Hi Jessica, welcome back. I would love it if you could take more pictures of your home from a distance so we can see the entire room. It's tough seeing close-ups....can't get a feeling of the whole space. I really do love all your pieces...wish you could find another spot for the cabinet, though. This way, you could make the beautiful console table your focus in the entry way. The table would look amazing with a pair of tall modern lamps on it. :-)
