I installed a counter depth refrigerator in my kitchen during a remodel. It looks great, however, I couldn't believe how much LESS space it gives you for food storage. Went out & bought a second refrigerator for the garage!

By the way, I'll trade my counter depth refrigerator for yours. I'm constantly running out to the garage to get items that don't fit in my kitchen refrigerator!!!

Lovely! I'm pretty sure I currently have the exact same cabinets in my 1961 house that you had in your kitchen pre-renovation. That is an amazing transformation!

Yes, Agreed. In this case, the client really wanted a ceiling fan in the kitchen. As a designer, I can offer guidance but ultimately the client is the one who decides.

This kitchen is almost exactly like ours but the refrigerator and stove are in different places. I've been wanting to paint our stained wood cabinets. Does anyone know if you can and how difficult it is?

Why so much hatred for a ceiling fan? When I moved into my house in Hawaii there was one ceiling fan, in the kitchen. I have since added ceiling fans to every single room (except bathrooms) and it's still in the kitchen. When you live in a tropical climate with no air conditioning, you use ceiling fans. And when you're cooking in a kitchen, it can get warm.

Well executed design, aesthetically appealing and I personally am all about kitchen ceiling fans because....it is my personal preference. Enjoy every minute spent in your lovely new kitchen! I have bookmarked this for my daughter who will have a similar design challenge to deal with.

Very nice transformation, and I loved the ceiling fan in my old house. It moves the air while cooking, airs out the kitchen after cooking bacon! I hate food smells lingering in the house. I would love to have this kitchen in my current house.

First of great Reno. Looks like the customer choose regular capacity refrigerator and a fan for comfort. Not sure why people all upset over that. I sure like the look of counter depth refrigerator but not for the huge sacrifice of space and extra money. I live in Texas myself and would not mind a fan however when I did my Reno I put a vent over the range and I cannot believe how much heat it takes out and the food smell as well.

It looks nice. The only things I would change is the fridge size (too big), the can lights (also too large), I'd add crown moulding everywhere, and I don't like the island. It doesn't fit the space. I also like the original ceiling. It is a great improvement, though.

If you open the pictures you'll see the original ceiling is the same after the reno. Only the recessed lighting was added.

I do think the cabinetry should be matched to the depth of the fridge. Why not use this option rather than losing the space with a counter depth fridge?

If I were looking at that kitchen in a house I was considering buying, I would be thinking: "I could reface or repaint the cabinets, redo the countertops and floor" --- and get close to the same effect. Wrong?

I thought the same thing ital mover. Perhaps the condition warranted completely replacing them. I know mine need to be replaced!

The kitchen looks lovely and quite workable. If one objects to fans (and I don't) the fan chosen is probably the most inobtrusive possible. The fridge does seem a little large, but that could be the angle of the pic or the needs of the homeowner. First and foremost, a kitchen has to work for its users!

The only thing really off for me is the island. It looks like a snow-walker about to trot off to the living room. I would have done the island with cabinets only. The kitchen is too small to have stools and a sit-down area.

I opened the photos to take a good look at your ceiling. I need canned lights too and wondered how you choose you location of the lights. I have approximately the same amount of space. Are 6 larger lights better than 8 smaller ones. Or is less better and what size. I do like yours.

thanks, tgeeca. At least I know I'm not totally crazy (unless you are too!) I hadn't thought of that possibility. I'd be curious to know -- from anybody -- if refacing usable cabinets can achieve a happy result if done properly, or is it always better to rip out and put in new, even if you aren't changing a thing about the layout.

I feel they did a great job on this kitchen, I'm guessing it's very appropriate for the house. The fridge does look large but I think it's more the camera angle, if not, the bigger the better in my opinion. The island is in a perfect place to lay items before they go into or out of the fridge. The floor looks beautiful and the ceiling and pot lights are a great improvement. It looks like a lot of planning went into this renovation, good job!

Excellent work! I don't understand why refrigerator sticking out 2-3 inches a problem. Counter deep one coast more and provide less space.

Not to mention, the cost to repair counter depth built in refrigerators is ridiculous, and if you ever want a different one it's not going to fit into the same space, so what do you do, redo your whole kitchen again? I don't get the obsession.

got a counter depth refrig and love it! Amazing how much room flow improved (come into kitchen looking at side of refrig). Yes, less room inside but face it, less room to miss old food in back! Make me monitor contents more and shop wiser with less waste.

The new kitchen is beautiful! I'm not a fan of the island though.

I had wanted to get rid of our oak builder cabinets for 12 years and I finally succeeded! As soon as the old cabinets came down, the space was much brighter.

I put a counter depth fridge (Fisher & Paykel) in our kitchen remodel. It's about the same square footage as our old fridge but
its a much more efficient design. It lacks a water dispenser and an ice maker but those are space wasters in such a small fridge.

We still need to add cabinet handles and a walnut countertop to the island plus a few other things but it should be finished this week. yay!

Back when that kitchen was brand spanking new did we actually really love it, found it pleasing to the eye? It amazes me what we thought looked good in the 70s! And this kitchen now which is nice and bright and well thought out...will it be viewed the same say 20 years or more from now or will our décor be even more evolved?

I am now questioning whether the actual cabinets were replaced or refaced. Obviously the layout is the same, just an island addition. The description says it was gutted but then continue on with "installed with new doors. drawers, panels, crown, light rail molding". I think this was a refacing job as ital mover and I originally thought!

Great job. I see so many posts asking about the floor. It looks very similar to what I installed in my 7'x20' kitchen last year. I went with Congoleum Armorcore Pro Valley Path, Quick Sand. It was installed in 1 day over existing peel and stick tile with no seams. So easy on the feet and eyes. Everyone that walks in my kitchen, says "WOW". It's the best choice I have made in this 79 year old farm house.
