Ill give an example, we bid our lumber and it came back 37K and he bid us over 50k! Told us "I dont charge a lot like most GC's I do this for fun" and comes back with a ridiculous quote for his services.... no thanks Ill be making those phone calls myself. *sigh*

Juudean- No he just said he quld give us "the best price necessary"

Then went on to say our brick ext is generally 32-35 cents a brick but he bid 50 cents minimum.... ummm we dont want the bank to run away from us when we go back after we have assured them we could build this house for X amount of dollars

So do we understand that you took this person's time to prepare a bid just to give it to the bank and you never intended to use his/her services?

All GC's charge for their services. It is not just the cost of materials and/or subcontractors.

We had thought if he wasn't too high we would use him, his son also does framework and we were considering getting a bid from him to do our framing.

I am fully aware that all GCs bid for their services. As they should, it is quite hard work.

Oh and I do want to add that he was aware the whole time that this was to take to the bank as a general bid... we did not say we were definitely needing him, just asked if he would be willing to bid it for the bank :)
