Most substitutes are going to a) look like granite not marble or b) be just or more expensive than quartzite. I could post a few, but having had this conversation with clients so many times, I think it would be better to think about going for the more expensive quartzite or considering something like White Carrara Marble. White Carrara Marble is really inexpensive and with proper care and sealing it 3-4 times a year (15 min process) with a high grade specialized sealer like Regent's Zeta Seal (specifically designed for marble), you should be able to keep them looking like new for years.

Thank you for your knowledgeable reply. I ended up going with the most stunning slab of quartzite - greys, white with some cream to go with the Dover White cabinets. SO glad I did. My husband is a generous man. You are right. There's nothing less expensive that compares to it. To me, the kitchen is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

Thank you, me, too. I looked back at my notes and I believe it's called White Princess. I've heard that what one manufacturer calls White Princess may differ somewhat from another dealer's WP. It has etched in spots due to fruit acids, but no stains. The etching has either blended in somewhat, or I've gotten used to it. I had to choose to accept it as part of the beauty of natural rock and move on. To be safe, I don't put hot racks on it, though I was able to do that without issue on my old granite. I love that it's grey/white, with a small bit of cream, a good neutral. We also used it for the hearth and around our fireplace.

They do look similar, very nice! In my opinion, I like the grain of the 2nd one a bit more. The 1st has a couple of strong horizontal lines. I can't see the cream you're referring to. What do your cabinets look like?

And for that reason, you need to make the decision in person, with your materials, and your lighting in your room. Computers don't show nuances of colors well at all.
