American Olean and Dal Tile make excellent quality tiles in a fair selection of classic colors. Prices are reasonable.

Make sure the product you choose is not made from ceramic. You will want either a porcelain tile or natural stone (not slate).

Example: If you were to take a ceramic tile and porcelain tile, flip them upside down and sprinkle water on both.. Ceramic will act like a sponge and soak up all the water, porcelain on the other hand only absorbs between 0.06% - 0.5% of moisture; water will bead up on the back side. Porcelain is ideal for outside use and wet areas such as showers. Both ceramic and porcelain are great for floor use inside of the home.

Most tiles are fire glazed, you will not need to seal them. The PEI strength rating is something to keep in mind when choosing your tile. Levels 1-2 are wall use only. Level 3 is residential strength and level 4-5 are commercial strength. You will want to stick with commercial strength for both floor and wall use. You can find commercial strength tiles in the $2-$3 range.
