Island countertop advice?

I'd like to do Virginia mist granite on perimeter counters or something similar in a solid gray tone. Can I do a white/grey marble on the island countertop? If so, what do you recommend? I don't have high ceilings but cabinets will be all white. Looking for a contrast but don't want as severe as absolute black on perimeter.
