I agree with Patricia, and consider a round table.

Daughter wants to paint the furniture as it more cost effective, we were thinking of a medium stain on the table top and painted legs and chairs. The set will eventually be replaced but not until the kids are a little older. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Pashmina. Like the idea from Beverly

The Craftsman style and color of the wood dining pieces go so well with the floors and add richness to the room. It seems a shame to paint the wood, which will make the furniture look like a kitchen set. That look will not enhance the pendant either.

A beautiful painting or mirror on that far wall and new seats upholstery would add more color and contrast to the room. Add attractive board placemats for the kiddies.

What are the colors in adjoining spaces? You want them to flow and relate. Does she have any espresso or black pieces elsewhere?

Agreed, deco. Since this dining room opens to another room, some elements of color, materials, furnishings, and style should harmonize from room to room so the spaces feel coherent and related. So many Design Dilemmas come down to rooms not flowing. Luckily, this room has loads of potential and doesn't need to be "undone" or "redone." It has lovely features--great floors, spaciousness, windows, molding, the pillar. The dining furniture has good lines.

The adjoining kitchen has medium brown maple cabinets and black topped granite island. Also has a black round kitchen table. The dining room set as is does not flow with the rest of house and at this time, the only option for my daughter is painting the set. The hardwood in the dining room shows more brown than is reflected in this photo. Thanks for everyones input. Really appreciated!
