Do you have a floor plan that you have not placed the sectional upon? The floor plan appears to be a bit different than the photos you have posted.

If you place your sectional there, where exactly to you plan to place your flatscreen?

The floorplan is the same. What appears to be different? And with regards to the TV, we are going to put one in the master bedroom and we are debating turning the second bedroom into a TV room.

For the reasons you have stated, an L shaped sofa is probably not the best idea here.

A long sofa along the long wall is called for with two chairs forming the L. Consider swivel bucket chairs on wheels for flexibility and fun! Offer you and your guest Multiple ways to capture that view -

Have you considered a dining table and chairs in the area to the left of the sofa wall; to the left of the 36" wall protrusion? I think that makes the most sense.

The entire length of the window wall would be left open as a walkway -

Man that pillar is a elephant in the space! How many people do you want to seat in this space? It seems you could do a series of chairs? Do you have measurements? What budget are you working with? This will be challenging and the sofa you picked is beautiful but hard to see it working in this space. More info please.

What about 4 of these chairs with a large ottoman in the center of them, and they could be turned to sunsets, or views when desired. If not a TV space, conversation areas would work best. Some interesting accent tables to set a drink or a book, would help along with a rug that is soft and cozy. Maybe an Flokati.

Just make sure if you do a Flokati you get 3000 weight or more.

I could also imagine a set of 4 custom benches in white leather to fit around the "pillar" for extra seating for entertaining. Whites and the cobalt blues would make a great color palette especially for late evenings, when most entertain. Then on that great balcony, carry that theme outside with white furniture. Very contemporary.

Light and then add whatever colors for accessories you wish. Party time!

I would not go a sectional at all ,I would go looking for really fab chairs and position them to the best view like this but with the chairs facing the view

I think even an eclectic collection of chairs might be interesting as well

and chairs are very useful for future homes as well. What direction are the windows facing? North, South, West or East? Just curious. You might need solar shades at those windows as well. Another solution is to find a great "screen" that is portable and you can use it to semi-shut down light when you want, or close your seating area somewhat for some privacy. Screens comes in all types and styles and price points. Shop in antique or flea markets for bargains and you can always spray paint them white or whatever color you fancy.
