Can you get three chairs on each side? That would allow for host/hostess chairs on either end.

I can fit 3 chairs on each side :/ Any way to cover these chairs to make them look brighter without looking tacky?

I don't know how to sew :/ any idea where I can purchase chair covers. Should I go for a more fitted kind? or the type that drape to the floor?

Since you already own those chairs, I would suggest not spending any money on them, but instead bring your colors into the room in other ways. Seeing the room from only this angle, I'm not sure if you have any other furniture yet, but here's what I suggest based on what I see. 1. Open the drapes! Let the light in. They may not be your choice in the future, but they are neutral and will look fine for now. 2. If that table has leaves, take one out. Either way, take two chairs away and flank the window with them. You could purchase two lumbar type pillows to add some color there. 3. Lower your chandelier a bit so that it's part of the scene. 4. Buy a beautiful, colorful centerpiece (such as large ceramic pot) in your colors. 5. Start looking for hostess chairs (upholstered) to place on each end of the table and move those chairs to the sides. Future purchases could be: a sideboard and mirror/lamps, and some artwork. Use what you have and spend your hard-earned money on what you don't! Homegoods is a great place to start shopping! Good luck!

How often do you use this room to seat six people for a meal? Do you use it daily for your family meals? Are there six of you? Could you find a better use of the room than for dining? Selling your dining set and chandy on Craig's List and opting to change the room's purpose can be a solution. Do you need a hobby, craft or play room. How about a media room, library/homework/computer room? If you don't use it more than twice a year, think about a new use for it.

Replace the curtains with fuller, more luxurious ones and add colorful artwork. Put a bright vase of flowers on the table. If you need to keep the plastic table cloth on, put a colorful table cloth under it.

Oh nice! I never thought of putting colored cloth underneath!

I really like your curtains but they need a new large diameter (with finials) SINGLE rod that is as long (or longer) than your current skinny rod. I would also add some artwork and lower the light. I would look for inexpensive art at Ross, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods etc.

If you are going to keep the curtains, go buy another pair. They are not full enough.

How about some crown moulding! It looks unfinished without trim work.

If you google dining chair slipcovers, you'll see all kinds of options. You can use white or even a color or print. I would cover two of the chairs and leave the others. Is the plastic meant to protect your table? If so, I would remove it and only use it when you need it. Adding artwork on the wall to the right of the window would help. Not sure what type of art you like. The table needs a pretty centerpiece and the drapes would look more luxurious if you find something with a lining. It looks as though you have a double rod-one for sheers and one for panels. The rod for the sheers should be as small and unobtrusive as possible and the rod for the panels should be chunkier with pretty finials. Hang the drapes so the rod is above the window and extends out to either side. You want to see lots of the sheers and let the panels just sit at the edges of the window. If you're going to use blues and grays in the room, I would stick with brushed nickel for a chandelier and hang it so the bottom is 34" off the table top as suggested. You said you want to lighten and brighten up the space, so I would look for something less heavy and more open and airy.
