I have 3 feet on each side of the bed to work with (actually more like 4.5 feet on the right side of the bed, but I am accommodating for the bathroom door). Don't want the bed on window wall (queen ends up in the middle of the windows and I hated it). And then there is this 7 foot wall. I'm guessing I only have space for one chair bc I cannot fit two side by side

The one chair with a small table and lamp would provide a cozy reading nook. Add a faux fur throw to the chair.

Jan, I moved the drapes. Wow, it really does open up the space. Will look wonderful once I move the television! I am planning on updating the drapes also once I secure my bedding and other pieces.

When you said metallics and glamour I think most thoughts go more traditional. You could keep it cleaner with a white bedding with a taupe greek key design.

A chair like this is more modern as well. I still think that rug could work though. This is a fun fur pillow. Champagne mohair throwOkay...I'm finished now;)

For instance, I'm not opposed to a black and white striped OR cowhide print bench OR to introduce black into the space. The bed is a deep taupe and I think it will need black to introduce drama. Nothing new, reasonably priced, off the shelf can be glamorous. It needs to be one off, or have a story behind it.

The logic part of the brain most people use to determine an aesthetic isn't the part of the brain that aesthetic plays on. For the same reason we enjoy architipical stories and most have no idea why. Our brains don't see things at face value, our brains see everything as a narrative, a story, a reason, an origin. It's a given in neuroscience. That's why most retail junk looks so empty, because its origin is purely aesthetic and tells no story.

Get a glass company to cut you a pile of identical mirrored pieces and lay them up in a tesselation of some sort. Repetition is baby's first element of design. Texture is second, but so much harder to achieve with the academic background you'll generally see, because technique in the industry that has been replaced with product knowledge. And there's nothing less exclusive than a product someone else has. Value and exclusivity have a direct link. That's why nobody is doing subway tile anymore.

Looking at the bed which is on the darker side I fear too much black in the room which appears smaller would close it down... don't see dimensions of the whole room though so I may be wrong.

Understand you don't want to go with gray/white as you have that in other areas.

I'd go predominant whites and off whites with accents of graphite near to black.

Otherwise, I'd go almost fully white with some black and dark gray as shown below with burnished gold bedside lamps (not shiny brass) and accents of burnished gold.

Not sure if you are keeping the ceiling fan, but a chandelier to tie in would look glam.

The table katinparadise posted would be very pretty in the full silver tone(the background photo) with glass lamps with the bedding above as well. You could mount mirrors on the wall several inches above the tables to open up the space. Photo below of mirrors mounted.

The mirrors shown above I feel are hanging too high and are not tall enough, however, it's an inspiration photo to give you an idea. You could virtually do frameless rectangle mirrors or simple simple framed rectangle mirrors. The shades on these lamps are also too large IMO for the mirrors... so, if you like the look that's something to keep in mind.

Thank you so much, Porter. I think we are on the same page in regards to the mirror behind the nightstand and the photo that you submitted. I bought this bed because I only paid $300 for it and so now I'm trying to manage the color of it. To be honest, I was afraid that someone would say white is the color I need (I was thinking that may be the only color that works here easily). I am so afraid of the white getting dirty and I don't like saturated colors either. I guess that is why I was so set on introducing some black somewhere. I do like the second nightstand that Katin posted (thanks, Katin). I see that overstock carries them...

I believe I like the champagne nightstands. They are 24 inches wide. Haven't ordered yet while I pull everything else together. So here is a non-scaled layout of the room. Again, I did not put the bed on window wall due to bed blocking windows. It is shifted closer to the door because of the window alignment and the bath door. Any thoughts on rug location? If I go under the bed, I'm afraid it may highlight the fact that the bed is "off center" from the other wall and windows. And, not sure how to handle that with the bathroom door opening over it? Or, should I just try the area right in front of the entry?

I think the bed is best suited for where it is. You didn't like it between the two windows and understand that. If you put it on the entry door it will be too large for that area and maybe even look odd with the entry there I fear, but you can try.

We have all white sheets for all bedrooms and the full baths...nothing but white and all white bath towels. I've never had a problem. Oxy Clean for detergent and occasionally (not always) I will use bleach on towels. We have a dark bed as well. With the champagne dresser you might go a different direction such as cream and white... cream being your duvet or comforter with cream Euro and bedding in white? A fluffy faux fur (with a hint of dark tones throughout) throw draped at the foot in colors like below would be very glam with the mirrors mounted on the wall behind the nightstands and the champagne bed side tables.

Otherwise, you can nix the glam and go with some mustard tones and colors such as the bedding above.... not as elegant, but still pretty!

When I said "try area at the entry" I was meaning the RUG being on that side of the bed. Not actually the bed. :-)

I actually like both looks and almost bought that same bed. This one just happened to be much cheaper and local. I also toyed with possibly utilizing mustard with the black but then I chickened out. Maybe the rug can help me decide which direction. What size do you think I would need? Please see my concerns regarding the bathroom door (3 feet and swings out into the room.)

My other room is CREAM upholstered bed, cream walls, white, and gray pillows and lamps with silver accents -- so I am just trying to be a little different in here. I guess it will look different by pulling champagne, cream, black, white and gold accents?

Ok, I think the mustard takes it in a total different direction so you'd go more with the chrome vs. the champagne IMO.

I was thinking you wanted to avoid gray and white :( so, I came up with the all white bedding as you love the champagne side table as do I. Then you have a cream comforter, Euro knife edge shams and white sheets. A large fluffy faux fur throw like above with whites, creamy tones with black spots... then you can add a little black with two toss pillows once the whole room is done... black with simple muted tone pattern toss pillows or 2 simple textured smaller scale pillows when you put your Euro shams up against the headboard, then the white pillows with white cases then a couple of pillows. You could even do a graphite Mongolian... I'd do that very last after you have lamps, side tables, throw, rug... much easier to get the right thing.

As for the rug, and the bathroom door!! I see your concern... you are worried that the door won't clear the rug when it's opened. You probably have some small rugs in the house... if you have a couple bring one in to the bedroom that is lower pile and another that maybe is a bit higher pile and open the door to see how it clears.

If the door is fairly close to the floor, it can be planed a bit.. the bottom of the door is solid for about 4" on a hollow door. Naturally, only a little can be planed, but you'll know better if you want to try with a small rug or two you have in the house so you know better what to select in pile height.

Pillow wise... I'd definitely wait as hard as it... so you can tie them in. Again, I think the fluffy throw would be great with some spots of black.....

So I like the nightstands (just can't choose between the black nickel or the champagne. Basically, with the bed, nightstand, and (possible) rug layout established, what do I do about the opposite end of the room? I have a 7 foot empty space to the left of the bed, I have a large open space to the right of the bed (entry area). I need a few pieces and I am not sure about layout. I don't want it cluttered in here either, but I'm not sure which way to go.

For now I'd get your nightstands once you decide. I think black nightstands would be too dark... that's my opinion though. I like the nickel or champagne personally. Then I'd work on the bedding area rug then decor to fill in those other spaces. Once you get nightstands in and the bed/area rug you can better decide what you want... you could do a tall leaning mirror on one wall??.... I'd wait to introduce more until you get the other things done especially the nightstands. You'll better be able to see what you want to do I think. If the bed is going to be neutral the area rug will be fairly easy to select. It's practically an empty room so you can't do it all at once or it will be a mess, mish mash.... :)

I was thinking that but was looking for ideas while I had some "attention" (smile). The silver one seemed extremely silver and I was scared to mix it with champagne. While I like the champagne, I was wondering if that would limit me to using them in my bedroom only (as I periodically like to switch things up and migrate them to other rooms over time). Lastly, the black nickel is not really black. It's just not abrigar silver. Did you see it on the overstock site?

Ok, I did see the, "black". I had not prior. I think if you are going with cream and white bedding the champagne with mixing in some black within a fur throw and a couple small toss pillows or a lumbar velvet black it works great and is glam. The black would work.

If you are going toward a white bedding more subtle black accent pieces with white sheets and so on. I'd do either the full on chrome or the black not champagne. In the end I think the Champagne will be the hardest to introduce in to another room vs. the black or the chrome look down the road. Unless it's a bedroom you might relocate to later in time. PPL use these tables in a living area as well...so....not certain if you would want to recirculate in to another bedroom (then get what you want and don't worry) if in a family room.... who knows what you will have down the road to work with any of them?

All in all, the room is not super light and bright. So, IMO you need light bedding and simple with the pretty darker bed. You might toss out some things you like in terms of area rugs since that is the next step with the bedside tables in. It's probably the largest purchase buying an area rug. Then you decorate the walls, etc you were concerned about after.

Probably not a huge help, but keep in mind... how light and bright is the room? The bed is darker in tone so you don't want to add dark sheets. Dark accents or things with black in them, yes. You might go with the, "black" mirrored piece or the chrome... total complete toss up to me. If you go with cream/white bedding (you were worried about the duvet or comforter being white) and cream and white faux fur throw as above with the black spots (similar or....) I'd go with the champagne... it's a win win no matter. In the end, any of the tables will work. Then you incorporate a chandelier, art, accent pieces, a chair.... what ever to tie it all in...

Thanks, Porter! I think you just rattled off everything going on in my head. I do think I need light bedding. I think I may need to locate bedding first and let that determine which color on the nightstands since I already know what they look like in shape. I like to switch things up from time to time and I don't want to always have to buy something new to do that. My biggest concern is that 7 foot wall blank wall and whether my bedding selection will clash with some piece of art that I may have fallen in love with....but then again, I'm not even sure art is what should go there? Or a table and art. Such a dilemma. I find that I purchase items over and over again if I do not have a plan beforehand.

Well, I agree.... try the bedding in a light color so the bed isn't lost. Then your nightstands. Given light neutral or white bedding and a dark gray bed I don't think you need to worry about clashing art. However, I'd get the area rug after the bedding and nightstands and then work on art or other for the wall.

I found these pillows and like them. I think I need one more of those and something additional in front. I was going to do a white duvet, but I think I need a different colored coverlet underneath?

Pretty! I do like white with your bed as it's dark and the room not really large. You can add a matelasse a the foot in a tone taken from the darker portion of the pillows. I submitted my thoughts above... however, you could do a faux fluffy white faux fur throw on top of matelasse folded at the foot. The pillows work very well with the headboard!

So I'm back. (Laugh). My budget sucks so I bought some nightstands within my budget today. The look better in person than on the pic though (just trust me here). I believe my theme has changed to more of a black white and cream. Should I go with Greek key RUG or Greek key black and white pillow? The lumbar pillow will be replaced once I know which direction I am headed again. The art and lamp are not definitive as I just swiped them from another room. Hi, long time no see :) I'd do a throw at the foot of the bed in a taupe or similar to the bed and I wouldn't do Greek Key unless it's a simple tone on tone like posted above by Beverly, but not on the bed. I know you had originally mentioned it and if you like it that's most important, but I don't see it with your semi glam. What you have on the bed now is nice and it works it's monochromatic, but I love it. I'd put the bed pillows standing against the headboard with a peak of the white case from behind so out a bit left and right try the decorative in front for a try. The dressers are fine. If you want to go to a big box store you might find some shiny pulls in silver? The lamp is a bit too large and tall IMO. I'd for for a more slender base and a bit more slender shade. Target sells so many lamps and you can them pick a shade.

I think it would be really pretty to add tall frameless mirrors just 3" or so above each nightstand. Easily found on line very reasonably or at the big box stores like Lowe's or Home Depot and I think they can even cut them. A easy thing go brighten up the space and add some glam or elegance very reasonably.

I think what you have going so far looks nice. I like the simple look yet still so pretty. Yet, I do favor a monochromatic bed. Just need a nice sized throw to bring in a little of the tone from the bed as it will work with your fur pillow as well.

Thank you Porter. So, my other room guest room is neutrals with grays and creams and I sort of feel like this one is trending the same way (I was trying NOT to do that). But I do love a monochromatic. So my thoughts were to try to beef it up with accenting with some drama or something. The existing lamp was just a mock lamp for evaluate height. I did see some mirrors at HomeGoods, but I also like the idea of black and white art to bring a little texture life to the room (I think shimmers and glam might be out the window with the introduction of black and that is okay). I moved the pillows around like you mentioned but I'm trying to figure out how many more I need (one new long one OR 2 square + one lumbar).
