How much weight can a solid core mdf interior hold?

I have an interior solid core mdf interior door that I took off and want to make a tv stand out of it for a new 75" flat screen uhd tv that weighs around 109 lbs with it stand in place. I plan on out the door length wise to width of 20" and put 4" X 4" as legs. Can the solid core door hold this weight without me placing a middle leg section for support?

I also thinking about a 65" TV that weighs 70 lbs with stand and building a tv stand that is 70" in length and same width 20". Only four legs at the corners.

Will either be able to take the weigh of the TV and maybe 20 lbs more for future accessories?

You should be ok supporting that weight and also if you want you can add an edging strip to stiffen the shelf even more.

I wouldn’t trust mdf laterally like that.

I began drawing plans for the TV stand and after doing a detail on the types of wood needed, the type of cuts that are required and putting it together, screws, braces, tc., staining and final coating; $1,800 for near top of the line BDI International TV stand looked very reasonably price. I just said I'll take it! Felt very comfortable with the buy too. Looks fantastic in my entertainment area. Trash my 45" 2007 cheapo Target TV stand that cost $249 at the time and I thought that was pricey and had to hall it back and assemble it too. BB delivered it into the room, unbox it, set it up and was out the door in half hour. It came completely assembled. Well worth the price!

Yikes, I can't imagine spending that kind of money just for a stand to put a television set on. Heck, I don't think I'd even pony up $249. That solid core door is starting to sound pretty good! IMO, even better would be a real wood door from an old house.

    DavidR,

$249 store brought will give you MDF with super thin veneers and very shallow depth inside for AVS receiver and Amps. Plus, there will be a limited weigh distribution and a total weight limit that is like 130 lbs. My Sony 1000ES AVS receiver weights in at 55 lbs or so. and has a depth of over 17.5" and width of 18". The TV on top has to be less then 55 lbs and you have the DVD player maybe 5-10 lbs. and that is it for store brought TV stand. My $1,800 is made of real oak and can hold a total of 300 lbs. Depth is 22" inside. Length is 77" and height is 22". Weights in at 220 lbs.
