First, buy a rug you like that contains at least some of the couch color. A chair and ottoman would be an improvement. I'd go a solid for that as well. You'll need to keep in mind the color and modern-style fabric of your other chair when you pick that fabric. Your room is crying out for a coffee table. If you're pinched on funds, you can ooften find decent ones on Craig's list or at Estate sales.

Do you have an accent color? I'm not really seeing the elements in your chair well, though they look more gray white and indigo. Easy solution is to do a neutral tweed - craigslist will help you with sofa no doubt. Or go look at the wonderful options that calico corner has - something with navy seems to be a good fit for you. the accent chair is a dark gray almost dark brown,blue and ivory and light gray . I have no issue with donating that old sofa it has alot of wear!! I am thinking of blue accents

You can have any carpet made into an Area Rug and have it done to your exact size and shape. You can choose a style that has neutral, gray, or black tones in it and tie the room together once your furniture is finalized. You can also do something more colorful and fun.

Where are you focusing your attention? To the fireplace of the t v? How many will be watching the t v? Maybe you need two sofas…one for the t v and the other for the fireplace? Back to back.

I will be focusing on the tv I guess although I really like the fireplace so want to keep it open if that makes sense

I agree with felixgrantham that you are not ready to select fabrics yet. First find your area rug and/or artwork. These will dictate the fabrics & colors you choose for the chair/ottoman.

The pix show a transitional style - so go with a simple rug, a neutral or color taken from artwork, that is bound in a dark color. The right stripe in neutrals might work too.

I also agree that you need a cocktail table. A round one would seem out of place and would not serve all of the seatig. If you do not want a rectangular shape, think about a longer oval. Great tables can be found, as said above, at estate sales. flea markets, thrift shops. These are prime candidates for a paint job!
