If your sink is center on the island, two / three are both fine, size and MASS depending. That said, you may want to consider a linear fixture......and eliminate two boxes. Both concepts can work on the ten feet and look good. Same thing/same finishes below, 15" fixture height, 41 " wide. So you'd have 29.5 inches either side over the ten foot island.

You're welcome! I know the eight foot thing is just a royal pain !!! But nothing is ever impossible.:) The linear Darlana will still give you a nice proportion over the island . There's another one on the Circa site with 3 "down" paper shades that can be custom to as little as 20 inches. It's 60 WIDE.

Depends the kitchen......and how "open" you want the light.

The pendants should end 36" from the counter.

Good discussion and examples! Love the Darlana lanterns! Would you do equal proportion placement on these from the edge of the island to the other edge? 1/3 -- 1/3 -- 1/3? So on an 8' island (96") you would have fixtures placed at 32" and 64" from the same starting edge point on the island? Or would you leave more space in the middle and maybe do edge to 30" for 1st lantern to 66" for 2nd lantern to 96" to other edge (30" -- 66" -- 30")? I'm looking at a very similar scenario and deciding between cans only or these lanterns (keeping in my a very tall husband)... Also, would you put can lighting over the island too (maybe at corners of island -- we have a coffer) or do these lanterns put out enough light? We have cans around the perimeter of the kitchen outside the coffer but not sure if we also need to add some cans within the coffer... I want a bright kitchen though and there is some concern on shadows over the island... any commentary is welcome...

Any recommendations for larger glass pendants over a 9.5 by 4 foot ialand but we have 8 foot ceilings!! i love the larger glass pendants but not sure if it will look strange with a short rod like its a semi-mount vs a pendant.

We have a 10 x 4 island and did this style with 8ft ceilings. Totally works but it was hard to figure it all out in the beginning. These don’t have glass, I don’t like glass b/c it is too much of a pain to keep clean! Hope this helps!

We have 10 ft ceilings and a window with a view. Would you still keep the fixture 36” from the table or could it be a bit higher so as not to block the view.
