Lamps on your tables. Then look for a rug that you like...,big enough that the front legs of your couch and your chairs will be on it.

I don't think it would take a lot to transform your room -- so I've made it lighter, brighter, and played up to the prettiness of the rose picture. You do need to change the curtains -- those look harsh and a bit messy.

An area rug is a must, for color and acoustics. You can play off the nice beige & peachy tones in the fireplace brick. Then some pillows with pattern and color. A larger table between the 2 lounge chairs with a nice lamp. Also a lamp on the table at the end of the sofa. Can you move the 2 pieces of art to be together , side by side on a wall - they are pretty but feel out of place in that room. The draperies should complement the area rug. May be a double treatment?

In one way, the soft green paint is ok, and already light - it's the frames that are dark. Though precious to you, does the dark seem 'heavy'? Would art's leaves look softer with a softened frame tone?

But I liked the photoshop of beigey [?] paint too. I looked again just now, and yes pretty nice - especially if you want the rosy-coral curtains.

Called heirloom finish, would repeat, bring out light bricks... could even use RubnBuff wax possibly.

Sofa and love seat combo is not good, since guests don’t like to sit right next to each other during conversations. People don’t actually watch a fire in f/p for long time, so focus your seating to comfortably watch TV.

Sofa and 2 chairs beats a loveseat any day. New art is a must.

Is there enough room over the mantel to put both florals side by side? The candlesticks and current painting seem to get lost on that brick.

Place a sturdier table (maybe round to soften the furniture straight edges) between the 2 chairs. The leggy glass top table can’t balance the 2 heavy chairs.

Think about replacing drapes with Roman shades. The sheers seem to “date” the room.

I agree with erinsean with the rug, the bigger the better! Also some millwork where your artwork will be will add interest (your artwork will rest ontop or inside of those white squares). A large mantle (if you're willing) and a pendant centered over your coffee table would be perfect :)

Agree lamps are desperately needed and yes a large rug is vital. All the rugs suggested look great and now I have to narrow it down. Oh boy.

Curtains need to be higher, doubled up and simplified to solids. Deco, needed that diagram. As for the sheers, I was just hoping for a little privacy.

Design and Marylut, I don't think the frames can be placed together but then again never considered that option before. Will experiment to see.

Everbedz, lighter frames is definitely an option. The brown frames do weigh the room and appear heavy. Actually they are! Oh and the chairs are dark brown not navy. A relaxed, casual room that's put together well and good for entertaining groups is what I'm going for.

Agree with the comments to scrap any thought of a loveseat. Like to move the chairs if needed and don't want anyone to feel forced to sit together.

Havingfun, not sure about two sofas since it might tighten the small space, although it can sit more people. Oh, cool name exactly my emotion right now.

Irene, love your inspirational photos and color suggestion! Beautiful. I do like my green walls but thought changing the color will renew the room. I have thought of Rich Cream, Manchester Tan or a taupe color. Sampled Manchester Tan but not crazy about it. Revere Pewter is really nice but looks gray and soft green. Not into gray walls because my colors don't gravitate to it. However, I know it's popular.

The Vintage Farrah Rug is beautiful with all the tones in it and I like the green natural fiber rug as well. Just concerned that a green rug will lock me into always going with green. If my curtains are solid color then a rug with extra colors can work. I can switch the curtains out when needed.

A brown ivory rug can also work.

As for the lamps, I like the Golden Gaze Glass. No generic color in the base. Drawn to lamps with silver bases also.

An area rug (big) would solve 90% of your problem. You might flip the sofa and chairs so the dining room side is less blocked off. The mantle seems oddly high—if it can’t be lowered, I’d just remove it. And I’d consider painting the brick. I’d think in terms of glass or metals in the room, just to add some light and sparkle. Maybe swap out the ottoman for a "real" table—I find this "ottoman as coffee table" thing results in too many upholstered surfaces and a resulting sameness to texture (everything is soft, nothing is crisp and shiny).

Other than that, a houseplant or two and lamps, and you’re done.

The furniture’s fine, but needs a large rug to sit on. Remove the mantel or lower it be 4-6 brick courses.

Take wider drapes to the ceiling.

Have you considered painting the fireplace? It would really change the feel of the space and isn't difficult to do.

ok, i removed the green sofa, so what you want is to go neutral with your seating and then use the color for your soft things-rug, pillows, curtains, etc. works well

you still did not say how many, you do not have to have two sofas, you can do one and 2 chairs.it is just that if you were going one and a love seat it is felt you get way more out of two

one thing to be careful of is exactly your problem now. as many have said they are ready to use what you have, such minimalist designs look boring if you do not have lots of great art on the walls. to combat that we use colors and texture in the room.

Jpp yes to it all. Flipping the sofa works and have done it before, the bling will be the lamps when brought in. Ottomon will be replaced with a coffee table and yes something sturdy will be welcomed.

The FP mantle has always bothered me and I have considered lightening to fireplace to a cream color or whitewashing it. Was nervous because once brick is painted, you can't go back.

Havingfun, that Joss and Main sofa is stunning! Understand about neutrals becoming dull if that's all that's used but with lively colors in the room it can elevate the feel. That's the fun part! Loveseat -- still not convinced yet but like how you think with accommodating more people. My eyes are gravitating more to your second rug option.

Oh, plants are a must for me and a large corner may work but the steam will kill it sadly.

i removed the other things to make more room. I am glad you already thought of how it can be dull if not added to.and I agree it is a great starter to be neutral and then the soft things can be changed as often as you like even with the seasons. you could bring that mantle and fp into the room. with a wood table and something else wood or brown. like the chair with the wood arms i put in. i put the wooden chairs because i have lived with them and they are very comfortable and they take less room. how about this table

Havingfun, thanks for the extra suggestions which I'm listening and will be working on. Like the second option for the table and happy to say one is on the way. Thank you. I will be looking for items this weekend and will be painting the FP or white washing it later this month. Figure once the FP is livened up and mantle lowered, I can decide if painting the walls is an option or not. The green color looks much nicer in photos. I will look at rugs and have the suggestions from here to continue motivating me. Working progress!
