Trouble with Tribbles - and Triangles

last modified: 8 years ago

Not long ago I read about the importance of making a test block before beginning a new project.

I agreed wholeheartedly. So why didn’t I make one test block before trying to churn out four Pinwheels all at once?

Yesterday I completed all the 6.5” sections for four “Pinwheel” blocks in about three hours. I was in the zone and everything was falling in place like clockwork.

After posting a photo, it was - very kindly and helpfully - pointed out that some of my black triangles were in the wrong positions.

Were they ever! They were on the wrong sides of the lighter batiks on almost all of the blocks.

I spent all of this morning picking out the tiny stitches, trying to press the patches flat without distorting the bias sides, and trying to salvage enough material to redo the blocks.

After working all afternoon, I now have two blocks ready to send to the group. I may, or may not, make a third one.

Have I mentioned I do not enjoy sewing triangles? But I will keep working on these Lotto projects until the triangles get easier...or I fall on my rotary cutter! :)

You may have to click on the photo to clear the distortion.
