I think your guy was trying to hang it so it can be seen from that picture window

I would say at this point leave it where it is. I would add not matching, but a good size wall sconce that blends with your chandelier. Install it on the wall where your picture is on the stairs. Just be sure it is high enough that your husband doesn't hit his head.

The size is fine…I think the formula is to add length and width of the hall, so yours is even bigger.

What bothers me is more the style and the heaviness of the chandy. I would prefer to see more bulbs and a different finish.

We had a similar fixture in the foyer of our old house and it was a two story. We hung it just a little lower. Sasha's right, the electrician was hanging it so it would be seen through your window. I think you're fine to leave it as it is. Live with it a bit and if it still bothers you, lower it a bit.

I disagree, I like the finish. Goes w your other hardware and doesn't blend in w the walls. НThe style of bulb and/or shade is a question of taste

Style, finish aside, what about the size? Should I go 3 tier and 12 bulb? The lighting store is willing to make the switch, my choice. If I lower, am I ok. If u add length and width u get 26 and I'm at 30. Thoughts?

Lower for sure size is fine. If you have a window in foyer light should be centered in it. How high are ceilings? Would determine drop.

Oh I see what he did. He centered to window, which is correct, but you want it to hang to show off in foyer. Yes drop to 8 ft from foyer floor.

I actually keep it at the height of the second story window so it's not TOO low

@travisinteriers... What determines the drop. Ceilings are 18 ft.

Just depends on how you want to look at it. You have to drop and have someone hold it and look and see. Make sure it's above door opening. Open front door. Then go 36" above that point. I said 8 ft but didn't know how high ceilings were.

I had my chandelier hung center to the window above my front door, then added a wall sconce on the wall of my stairs. It blends with the style, but is not a style match.

Unofficial tally over a lot of years holding them up for people to decide (and getting really strong arms) where yours is now is the large majority of the final decisions.

the height is perfect its the chandelier that is too small.

look at your window and look at this one the height is the same

It might not even be the size of the chandelier but the wight of it. It just seems to disappear. You might need something heavier looking that fills up the space better and then hang it just a touch lower too.

This is why I HATE double height foyers (new construction) with a stupid window over the door. It shouldn't be about the outside looking in, but the function and comfort inside. The chandelier height formula (to center in window) makes no sense for the people inside. It feels cold, detached and dumb. But that's just my opinion.
